I was searching around the forums, and found this article: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/228159-how-build-your-own-afpr-kit.html

It seems like an awesome idea. Perfect, since I'm on a budget, and the AFPR I wanted to get costs 200 dollars. I wanted to know if anyone has had any success building their own AFPR, and if it has worked well for them. If it is of mediocre quality, I'd rather go with an aftermarket AFPR, but if its worth it, then I'll definitly look into it.

Thanks again guys for all your help!

That setup will work just as well as anything else. The Aeromotive unit is a great FPR unit. And as long as you hook the lines up right it will work just as well as anything else. This setup will probably run you about $200 once you buy everything you need.

Are you really looking to build your own AFPR or build your own kit? An AFPR is not something you build yourself, but I could see you wanting to put together your own kit.

Which AFPR are you looking into getting that's $200? I can't say I've ever seen one that is that expensive. Please post a link to it because I'm sure it can be had for less money.

Here are two highly recommended kits that cost right around the price of just the AFPR you were looking to get, but they include everything except a liquid-filled gauge.

With SS line - ImportEvolution.com - Import Performance Parts, DSM, WRX, Supra, Honda
Without SS line - ImportEvolution.com - Import Performance Parts, DSM, WRX, Supra, Honda

Also, please fill out your profile so we can help you without always asking questions about your setup.

Also, just to give you an idea, I built my own AFPR kit and it cost me over $300, but I also went with more expensive SS line and AN fittings. But my Aeromotive AFPR itself only cost me $129.

I wrote that article, because that is the exact same approach I take when setting up an AFPR on a DSM.

Even though the kits out there are nice and affordable, I've never been a fan of any of them for a few reasons. Some supply regulators that I wouldn't personally choose. What if they don't supply enough hose? How do they know where it will be mounted? What if I don't want brass fittings?

These are just a few of the thoughts that run through my head from time to time. By building your own kit, you can make everything the way you prefer. And it's pretty easy to piece together. Just my .02.

@snowboarder -> It was a kit. This same one: ImportEvolution.com - Import Performance Parts, DSM, WRX, Supra, Honda

@99gst -> I've never installed an AFPR before. Does the article apply to 1Gs as well?

How about pricing? Is it cheaper to build your own? Or is it worth it? Pros and Cons?

Ok, that makes more sense now that the AFPR kit costs $200.

To answer your question about the article, yes, you the AFPR installs the same way on a 1g or 2g.

If you were to get that kit, it also comes with instructions.

Here's an article that you'll need if you get the kit with the ss line:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...how-work-stainless-braided-hose-fittings.html

It will be more expensive to build your own kit. But 99gst stated some pros and cons. Here are more (including his).

Pros
-get to pick the pieces you want
-get to buy enough ss line (the kit may not have enough depending on where you mount it)
-if you don't like the red/blue AN fittings, you can buy black ones (what I did)
-if you don't like the looks of the AFPR, you can get another
-if the AFPR doesn't have the right size inputs, you can get another
-it's not hard to piece your own kit together with all the info from this site.

Cons
-cost more money
-doesn't come from all one store
-might be harder to find some parts
-a lot more options (if you don't know a lot about the pieces or are bad at making decisions)
-takes time to research and piece together

I personally thought piecing my kit together was worth it. I wanted a different AFPR (a bigger one) than the kit came with. I wanted to make sure I had enough ss line. And I wanted to get the Ano-Tuff AN fittings (the black ones). And after installation, I still probably have enough ss line to run from my filter to the rail if I wanted to.

Excellent posts. Thanks for your help, this really cleared things up. Since Im new at this, I think I'll go with an aftermarket AFPR Kit, not make my own. I do not want to risk screwing things up, and making this harder than it should. Once I get more familiar with it, I may do it myself, just to try it out :p

Thanks again for your help! I really apreciate it.

I used that very article with great success when I built my kit. I got everything I needed from Jegs. It took me a while to find all the pieces but getting it from one source all at once saves on shipping.
