Is this brace structural or cosmetic (PIC) ?

This is from the right rear suspension on a 1990 TSi FWD
You can see the orange strut on the right, and the silver exhaust pipe running through.

As the picture shows there appears to be a bracket that is cracked in half.
It seems to join the gas tank and the rear axle.

I was just wondering if this bracket is part of the rear suspension or if it there to support the
gas tank ?

And it would probably be a good idea to weld it back together rite ?

Generally speaking, yes, it should be repaired.

I don't own a 1g, nor have I ever, but if its conncected to the fuel tank I doubt that it has any link to that actual suspension.
