The cracks are very common and usually not a problem from what I've read as long as they don't go all the way through to the outside of the housing. That thing is pretty messy inside, though. If you have a dremel tool, go get an 80 grit flapper wheel bit (or two) for it (looks like an old-fashioned paddle-wheel boat's paddle wheel) and clean up the housing (take it off the CHRA first so you can clean out the rust and carbon chunks from inside the scroll, but make sure you scribe marks on the CHRA and housing so you clock them correctly when you put them back together). The flapper wheel is just strips of sand paper connected to the hub on the shank of the bit. Does wonders.

You can see that the lip on the inside of the exhaust inlet has been ground down, some of it still remains. So yea, looks like it has been ported.
