ok, i have a gm maft setup on my car. i was wondering is it ok to run the car without a air filter? i know its not good to suck stuff up in there. but putting that all to the side,is there any other reasons. thank you

I have a maft as well, i ran it with my 14b and damaged, the turbine wheel. Other than that
you could suck anything into your intake system, and who knows what kind of damage
you could do. So you could if you wanted to but why, I run a filter especially with my my EVO. So that was enough to keep my filter on. thats my 2cents.

Hey guys, by not using the air filter you can run the risk of scaring your cylinder walls and that will cause lots of blow by..
The cylinder walls are not as timid as you might think. There could be some scarring though.

Weigh the costs, Is it worth the extra hp if you end up having to rebuild a turbo or a motor ever 5000 miles? You could put the money spent on that into a power mod that could get you the same hp as pulling the filter off.

Get a high-flow filter and larger intake pipe..maybe modify the routing a bit for better flow if you need to. Or go really crazy and run dual intakes and filters.

There are several things you can do to get more air into the turbo... but running with no filter is just plain stupid IMHO, unless it's a track car that you're going to be rebuilding every 50-100 runs or so anyway.
