2.5 o2 House w/ Wastegate.

Now my question is.
Why dump, Why recirc?

Is dumping agaisnt the law?
And how do I know what size wastegate to go with?

Thanks.

The primary purpose of dumping the wastegate passage is to control boost creep. Depending on your turbo this might not be an option. You have a PTE 50 trim. there are a good number of them that have an un-divided exhaust outlet on the turbine side. In that case if you dumped you would never build boost because ALL of your exhaust would bypass the wastegate. Check to see which version you have first.
And yes, dumping is against the law.
It breaks about every environmental rule there is.

I dont quite have the turbo yet, This whole package is my next project, My turbo package.

This turbo is what I feel will be the best for me, more power then an evo3 without going overboard and having to build the block, while keeping resonable spool.

Manifold is the best cast iron you can get period.

O2 housing needs to fit in with these, Something that can flow, 2.5 is fine for my goals really. and I want a ext. wastegate to make sure creep is not an issue.

But I want to understand the exact reasons of each option in this area.

Why Dump, why recirc
Why 38 40 44 ? what spring and why.
Will any of these options kill alt's ?
etc..

Trying to gather all the info prior to buying.

Thanks

Why Dump, why recirc

There are many reasons for this. However, in your case, the decision should be based on one factor. - If you need to pass emissions and need to have a catalytic converter (visual test) to pass the emissions, dumping is not for you since it will be caught during testing. Dumping is loud, recirc is not, many people who dump, end up recirculating it later.

Why 38 40 44 ?
The bigger sizes wastegates are used when you want to run low boost on a big turbo. You'll be fine with a 38 on a 50 trim.

what spring and why.

What spring - this depends on what boost you plan on running. The 1 bar spring is will set the boost to ~15 psi, this means that you can't go below 15 psi, but you can go up to 30 psi (twice the spring) with a boost controller. It is a matter of choice really, if you want to get a 1.6 bar spring that is set to ~24 psi and will never run less than 24psi then get the spring for the 38 that gives you that boost setting.

This may help you deciding what spring you want - http://www.tialmedia.com/documents/w3_tial_38_sp.pdf

Will any of these options kill alt's ?
This is a very open question. We all know that heat kills alternators. Anytime you run a exhaust manifold without a heat shield, you run the risk of killing an alternator, same with o2 housings. If you want to be safe and not risk kill alternators, have it jet-hot or ceramic coated. A dump that is far away from the alternator is better than a dump that dumps exhaust gases near or on the alternator. If you have a big vent for air to come out of the engine bay, it may not be as big of an issue.

Hope this helps. :thumb:

Acutally Great help, Thanks

So Im going 2.5 o2 w/ 38mm wastegate recirc,

Is coating a SS o2 housing doable?
I only hear people coating their cast iron stuff.

Recirc opens up to boost creap correct?
Is there more of a chance of this with x setup or x conditions.
Ifso any info would help

Yes, you can coat a SS housing. I wouldn't worry about boost creep on a PTE 50 trim with an external wastegate.

I really dont want to have any boost creep and or spike,
so as you said a 50 trim wont cause these problems?

Thanks
