I'm putting the engine back into my 93 TSi AWD (but the block is from a 91 Galant VR4) after hydrolocking it. Anyways, I've been trying for the past week to wrestle the motor mounts down into their places. I have the front and rear mounts secured, but the sides ones just won't line up. It's like the engine is crooked in the engine bay, yet the front/back line up. I know they fit, because I took the engine out a few months ago. Does anyone know any tricks to get it in? I've tried prying it, but there's really no place to pry with a crowbar. Thanks in advance.

Yeah it sounds like you're trying to use the Galant mounts, as I'm sure you now realize, they don't fit.

This engine was in the car when I got it. I pulled it a month later, and am using the same mounts that were holding it before, so I know they can fit.

They can be a pain in the butt to get in even with the correct mounts. I usually end up fitting three and then use a combination of raising and lowering the engine with the cherry picker and prying the engine towards the last mount.

When I did my 90 , I screwed up and put the rear mount on upside down :sosad: . May want to check . The sides lined up but the front and rear wouldn't both go in .

Yeah that's what I was thinking, did it make a big difference? The front and back are bolted in, but the engine is crooked about 2 inches.

Are you using just the mount that bolts to the car or did you switch both the one that bolts to the block and mount?

I'm using both mounts that came on the car when I bought it. All I can think of is that I put the rear mount on upside down, because the engine fit fine before.
