Alberta,
So im really happy, im getting my new engine from karking, which is fully remanufactured from what he said he did to it. im also getting the new fp race manifold and fp 18g, megan racing o2 housing. Some other gauges and electrical stuff like boost controller and turbo timer.

But..... I have to go to a shop to get the engine put in. Now obviously there work is warrantied. There are a few things im worried they will miss, like the manula boost controller I have on there. What if they forget to put it on and they overboost the shit out of it? My engine seized up because of the common oil filter problem. They still have to fix that. I have explained how to fix it, and to just replace the gaskets and seals. This still worries me. Im afraid they dont know everything about are cars and will #### something up. What are some questions I should ask them?

If I was that worried about them messing up on the swap I would just have someone else that knows what they are doing work on my car.

Word...spend a very small piece of the money they would charge you on an engine crane and if you don't have them some tools! I've done a couple now and it's not that hard, just takes time. Make sure you have a manual, a buddy or two, and internet access nearby and you're set.

I totaly agree with SBstar, I refuse to take my car to the shop reguardless of what needs fixed, I needed a new engine, and within a weekend i had my old motor out, and the new one in and was drivable .....no leaks (other then the return line easy fix), boost controller was hooked up properly, and i know everything is connected right saved my self alot of money and learned a whole bunch wouldn't trade the knowledge for anything! you only have literally 4-5 bolts holding the motor to the tranny other wise its all in the mounts

Plus I've seen more shops screw up engine swaps then backyard mechanics like ourselves haha. I swapped an engine in for a guy who lived 4 hours away from me but didn't have enough time to hook up all the connectors, he took it to a shop and it sat there for 6 months. I offered to come back and finish it for him but he decided to sell it. Point is it might be faster to do it yourself also.

If its a direct swap its definately an easy thing you'll also learn alot about your car if you do the swap yourself. Thats the best way you can go I think. I did my swap and now I'm helping others do theirs

Im starting up a shop, if you were closer i would help you, but anyway i would try to do it yourself its really not that hard.

That would great, time is an issue for me though as i am in college full time and on the track team. My weekends are gone til summer for indoor and outdoor track meets. I need this car asap to get home. But ill think about it.

Either way I would like to know where I can find a new 2g oem housing? To solve that stupid filter problem. I know there are ways to fix it but a new one would make me feel better.

JNZtuning can get you a new oil filter housing. Have you looked at dsm.ca to see if anyone on there would be willing to help that's familiar with dsm's.

Dude don't worry about it. If its under warranty, then you're all good. Before you put your motor into your truck, ask them or let them know what you're worried about. Don't be quiet and keep whatever to your self; you are the customer; you're always right!

No I havent. Maybe I will.
I got a few questions about the housing. Will a new one fix the problem with the bolt being loose and causing the oil filter to come off? What does it mean by forward facing? Also what else would I need along with it? Is it possible karkings motors come with a new housing so I dont have to be worried at all?

Cant he just tighten the bolt so it wont come loose?

Ya but thats not guaranteed to work, even locktite. Im willing to spend 30 dollars to not have to worry even though ill check it everytime I get in my car anyways.

Between this website and a chilton book, you are golden. No joke. You can save yourself a lot of money if your motivated enough.

That may be true, but you guys dont understand. Im busy for the next 6months with school and track. Take today for example. Got up at 8 for school. WEnt to class at 9 Got out of school at 1. Went to training room for rehab til 2. Javelin practice til 3. Go home and eat cause i havent all day. Lifting from 4:30-5:30, bam its dark. I have no garage. Not even close to having enough tools with me here.

Anyways back to the point,

I got a few questions about the housing. Will a new one fix the problem with the bolt being loose and causing the oil filter to come off? What does it mean by forward facing? You should be able to reuse your old filter housing. Replace the oring, torque down the filter bolt to spec, and use hi-strength loctite. The forward facing housing bolts up and the oil filter faces toward the front of the vehicle rather than towards the oil pan. I believe the forward facing housing has no provision for oil cooling. Please correct me if I am wrong, I have no experience with them. The Karking engine should come with an oil fitler housing; call them to double check.
