The HTA type compressors are new and are only available on the GT35, right?
Wrong!
HKS pictures their GT3037S and GT2835 Pro S turbos with HTA compressors.
Furthermore, the HKS GT3037S compressor cover says GARRETT, whereas the FP HTA housing doesn't say.
And I can't find a peep about how to buy one from Garrett. Only FP, HKS, maybe Tial.
Does anybody know what is going on here?

Gary

I was under the impression that the term "HTA" was something FP made up. How does that involve HKS? As far as I know, Tial makes the wheels and housings.

Took me a minute to find it: New HTA 35R testing finally done and in.... - Page 6 - evolutionm.net

Post #78 quote from Dave Buschur:
I asked about the HTA naming. The letters all designate something different about how the wheel was designed and such. Each letter stands for a series of changes the wheel went through to get it where it is. So it is basically Robert's secret notes.

We can call it Hot Tight A, I like that one the best.

I read on the Dsmlink forums that FP is currently working on a T67 HTA wheel, and they plan on making HTA wheels for everything from the 16g to the 42R.

This would be great!
Thanks for the info.

HKS is in it because they show the pictures:
HKS USA GT3037S Turbocharger

That sure looks like an "HTA" housing and notice it says GARRETT on it! The FP HTA's don't.
But in typical HKS form they don't say a word about it on their web site. And I know that the HTA thing is the housing AND the wheel. So with HKS not saying diddly about it, I don't know if theirs has the wheel, or if it is just the housing. And just in general, I don't get the big picture here. I'm not so sure it is an FP invention as implied in that other forum!

Gary

the HTA upgrade is an upgrade to the compressor wheel, not the housing. FP uses tial's housing meanwhile HKS seems to be using garret's. Its just a new way of making the shrouded cover. Please don't confuse the HTA wheel upgrade with how the compressor housing looks.

I guess that's right, HTA refers to the wheel. DB says in that same thread that the Evo Green compressor wheel is also an HTA wheel, although I don't see anything about HTA in the FP web page for the evo green. FP just says it is a billet wheel.
Yeah, there will be some confusion. There is already a guy with one for sale:
The compressor housing is a Tial/ HTA cover, all that is needed is the HTA wheel, for a full HTA kit. There is ZERO surge with this housing.

Oh well, I would want both myself, the wheel and the housing. I don't think one without the other would be as good.
Anyway, looks to me now like the wheel is FP's design, and the HKS turbos have I-don't-know-what for wheels.
If FP can sell me an HTA GT3076R sometime in the next few months I'll be happy.
