Ok so i have a 1997 eclipse gs-t spyder. Only engine mod is a cold air intake, stock turbo, and an upgraded exhaust. So anyway, i was testing my cars speed at the airport. I hit 142mph, and let off b/c end of runway. 2nd run, i got to 130ish and it just cut off on me.. just wondering what could of caused it to cut off. Btw, this was on 2 seperate days.

Hmm weird. I know there is a speed cutoff but I always thought it was at 140. And you got past that..then couldn't get to it again. Someone else will be of more help but I just find this weird LOL

Yeah, i looked down and saw my needle lil voer 140 so i let off..2nd time i saw it at 134? and it cut me off, and slowed me down.

Did you have a logger?

i dunno about that 140 cut off either, is that true? i've definitley gone past that and no cut off

Some people may have seem to have went faster than the speed limiter will allow, but i think a lot of that can be atributed to speedometer error. It's nearly impossible to have a 100% accurate speed measurement at all speeds that your car can reach. So manufacturers make them as accurate as they can be in their most driven ranges 45 - 60 MPH. Then everywhere else you will be off by a certain %..the faster you go the greater the % of the total # or MPH you will be off by. my motorcycle is the greatest example, the motor revs to a 13,500RPM shift point so that i can do 115MPH in 2nd gear (indicated) But yet in 6th gear at an indicated 182 MPH i know that i'm probably barely touching 165- 170MPH because of the factor of speedo error.

Sounds like the speed imiter to me though. And without a log, there is really no definate conclusion anyone can come to.

But all of this doesn't really explain the 12ish mph difference in the two runs. I agree that you need to log to see exactly what is going on. Weather, current engine temp, or other things could have played a factor on the change...
