MAF-T Right for the job?

Hey Guys,
I just put a rebuilt 6 bolt Engine in my car with a whole bunch of mods ( see my profile, or ask). My question is tuning wise, what does I use for the following setup?
I am in the process of buying Evo 8 injectors, an 255 fuel pump, and a boost controller. Now I have no tuning devices right now. I hoping I can tune all this through your standard MAF-T. I would stick the 3" GM MAF On and then the translator. Is this good enough to tune this setup and turn up the boost? Thanks guys!

Ok Why would I use those things, and what are they as far as what do they do? A little bit more in depth would be appreciated.

The SAFC is a piggy back that tells the ecu what fuel ratio to use, when you modify the engine it changes the amount of fuel and air needed but the ecu does not know this so the SAFC changes the ratio to accommodate the changes in engine efficiency from the modifications.

The FPR is a valve that is used to change fuel pressure at the fuel rail, this helps to prevent the engine from running to lean.

With DSMap you can program the fuel ratio. I suggest you run a DSMap set up it is very cheap and effective and will cost less than a MAFT with a SAFC.
 
For what you want to do that maft will be just fine a fpr would be ice but not necessary.
 
Yeap for what you have right now the maf-t should have no problem tuning your car and it always nice to geta afpr but not needed as of right now!!
 
Ok guys! This is DSMap looks cool but I am soooo lost on install and all this stuff. Please forgive my newbness to the tuning industry but please explain. So do I need a new ecu to tune this or what? Is it just a replacement for the Eprom Chip? How do I tune, is it a program? Is it simple enough for somebody with NO prior tuning experience to playe with and not damage their engine? It looks cool but I am a little lost to how it works. Also do I still need the GM MAF sensor or can I just leave my stock MAF in? Thanks for your time and all your help!
 
With DSMap you do not need a MAF just the air temp. sensor and the MAP sensor. Tuning is done on a lap top you enter the fuel curve. Most tuning questions can be answered on there forum page, they have base maps that will make your engine run fine intill you get more tuning experience. You do need an Eprom ECU, the ostrich is a new chip that replaces the eprom chip.

Wow that looks complicated. Now as far as everything else goes, this will do everything I need it to do for a simple tune? How does this compare to a DSM Link?

Johnny the DSMap set up would cost half of what dsm link costs and has most of the same programs like a stutter box, fuel curve tuning, and timing adjustment both let you tune your car for maximum power. The best thing I like about dsmap is the price and the fact that you do not have to run a MAF which lets you dump your BOV in the air. I believe DSMap is better than DSM link but DSMap is less known about because it is not advertised..
 
Ok well i am leaning heavily towards this DSM Map. So it can do everything I need it to do, but the install looks really hard and long. Anybody else done this install? Is it hard? Spoonman how did yours go? There is alot of Lingo in the install link that you gave me that I do not understand. So any advice?
 
The install should start with removing the ecu and then taking the eprom chip out and installing the ostrich chip in its place. Then there is some wiring under the dash for the stutter box. Under the hood you need to weld in a bung after you BOV for the air intake temp. sensor. More wiring is done to connect the MAP to your old MAF harness.
 
O god dont get dsm map its not worth it. Yes its cheaper then link but there isnt the same network or quality (in my opinion) if your spending big bucks to do it roght id go link, theres a million people to help you once you get it dsm map not so much. I still believe with your setup the translator is fine.
 
i am looking to buy a maft t. From what i understand( i have never used one before) is that you can tune on it just like a afc. Now why would this guy need both? Can you not fine tune as much like you can on a afc? i am just wandering if i should get one now or just get dsmlink and forget about i? i found a good deal on a used maf t for 100 bucks. so please help me out.
 
yeah the translator tunes linier. but it will get you into tune you need to be at, it also free,s up alot of restrictive flow ,,now the safc is better for fine tunning, like getting you to that perfact trim number, but if you have the cash dsmlink seems to be the better of the bunch. i guess it comes down to what you can afford. i started with a translator and picked up a gm 3bar from a junk yard for like 10$ then added a safc 2 later from killer deal off e-bay so tottal all i spent was like 325. i think dsm link goes for like 550 to 600 depending if you have an eprom ecu.
 
The MAFT and the SAFC only tune a little bit and when I was running both I had knock because the SAFC was to lean, it is much safer to tune with DSMap but like Twack said there is not a lot of people using it so less support in case of a problem.
 
Hey guy I just got a 3" GM maf. I just want to know if putting it in the uicp is better then putting it the intake? And do you have to have a DSMlink or anything else like that before you use the GM maf?:confused::dsm:
 
You aren't going to get any fine tuning with just the GM setup alone. I also, recommend getting link. Especially since you have no idea what you are doing. Don't mean that to sound harsh. However, you can do A LOT of damage when it comes to tuning if you don't know how it works. Personally I have never seen anyone plug in a GM setup and not have to do any fine tuning. My biggest suggestion is to READ READ READ and learn how things work before you do anything. Good luck!

I know a little bit about the GM maf and I want to know if you had to used a DSMlink or anything like that. So what do you all think is the best place to put the GM maf in the UICP or in the intake it self.:dsm:

Ok first of all ok. So either way if I go dsm map or Link can I leave my old MAF sensor and everything in or do I need to modify it as well? am I looking at a similar setup to the dsm map or how does the link work? Also does the eliminate the need for a maf-t and a safc as well or can I use them to tune my car even further? Thanks for all the help guys!
