Clipped 14b

the best way to find out is to actually do it, try and get some before and after numbers if you can

I've been told that its a waste of time and it produces alot of heat. I dont know if this is true so basicly I want a second opinion.

The 14b has received a lot of attention lately. There are many theories on how to make more power on it. One thing that has been mentioned was clipping along with a serious port job and swapping to a 7cm housing. I even talked to FP about it and they seemed to think it may be a good idea. I don't know if you're looking to max out your 14b or just curious as to whether or not it would be worth it on a regular build. If you're serious about making as much power on the little guy as possible I'd say try it, you can always pick up another 14b in good condition for anywhere between 75-150 bucks.

I for one never thought clipping a 14b was worth it. Why? Because It has a tdo5h exhaust wheel.. which will flow plenty of power (see 16g, 20g, etc)... The part that limits a 14b is it's compressor wheel... being the smallest of the bunch and a "b" wheel which is more so designed for mid range and not upper rpm range power like the "g" wheels are. I did notice a little increase in topend switching to a 7cm housing vs a ported 6cm, But IMO clipping not nessesary. The compressor won't flow enough to take advantage of the clipped turbine.
