So Im unclear about how a MAF translator can replace a Safc if I got with bigger injecters, how do I tune the thing? and will it affect my ability to pass a smog check in cali? can I reverse it easaly? tune it down?

thanks

I'm not exactly sure what your trying to ask but let's just use this as an example..

say right now your running the maft with the stock 450cc injectors, use just "zero out" the maft (set it up for the stock 450cc injectors.

if you buy 650cc injectors you would set the maft up for the 650's and then tune with you safc on top of that...

Am I getting what your trying to inquire about ?

To use the translator, you need to replace the factory MAS with a GM sensor (I'm assuming you know that already). I don't think with the GM mas in place that'll let you pass the visual part.

If you have a SAFC, then you don't need a translator. If you get bigger injectors, you can use the SAFC to compensate.

Well Im sure I wont pass the visual, I just need to pass the sniffer test... how hard is it to get the maf to 660cc? I dont want to get a safc.... I understand that you replace the stock one and place it after the bov, so you can vta, better spool, and kill boost creep and running rich? am I right?

You can pass the visual with the GM MAF easily if you make everything look as stock as possible. Smog techs are nothing more than glorified equivalents of burger-flippers in the automotive industry; they're not going to be able to tell if that GMAF came from the factory or not. If you bling it out with chrome piping and colorful couplers, then they already know it ain't stock.

Regardless of what you're tuning with, get your fuel trims as close to 100% or 0% as possible and make sure your O2 sensor as well as your catalytic converter are in good working order. As long as the car is running right (idle under 1000RPM, no surging, etc) it'll pass. If you have a FWD, you'd better make sure your EGR valve is working too or you'll fail for NOx. AWDs are much easier to pass since they can't dyno them yet. :D

All placing the MAF after the blow-off is good for is venting to the atmosphere. It won't solve any boost creep issues because that's an issue with the wastegate (you'll either have to port it or switch to an external wastegate). I doubt it'll give you better spool since one of the advantages of recirculating is to keep the turbo spooled between shifts.

Just my personal opinion, I think you're fine with the MAS you have in there right now and your money can be better spent elsewhere.
