4g63 + Geo Metro

I was just wondering if anyone has put a 4g63 in a metro yet. I have a spare 6 bolt in a complete front wheel drive 92 eclipse. It also just so happens I have a blowin up '94 geo metro. According to my measurements it should fit. Just looking for some imput anything would be great and no I dont care to here about your negative stuff or that its still a geo because when its said and done its still going to be lighter than the 1st or 2nd gen that I drive. The fabrication is not a problem so pretty much just looking for some imput on the project thanks for your time.

You have them both, cars complete. You got some time and some money for fabs, and you got (or learning) some build up skills. You see lots of hybrid threads will everyone saying everything. Get the tools and just do it. Post up your build up thread. Good luck!

I used to see one around here once or twice. Last I heard, he burned down at the track. Becareful and it would make a nice sleeper atleast ( if you turbo it that is .

I've always been a fan of obscure engine swaps. I say since you have both donor cars and the time, go for it. It would be an interesting combination.

As far as size and weight I dont think there is alot of difference between a Metro and a Mirage . Maybe a couple hundred pounds and mirage builds are numerous and they are hella fast highway monsters so I say doit then I wanna go Z06 huntin with you

that would be pretty sweet, if you actually do it I would reccomend some good suspenion and maybe a cage to help stiffen up the body a little bit. Take some pics of the progress if work gets started

The sad part is you'll be sacrificing what sounds like a perfectly good 1st gen car... Unless you plan on using the shell?.?. It's sad, you pull the engine and send the rest to a junk yard to rot.

But it is a cool idea. I was just working on a 3cyl metro at work. I thought it would be cool to put a big block in it. Lol. I think the torque would twist the frame though! If you do it, good luck. It sounds like a fun project. Just remember what they say at the end of every "classic muscle car" episode.

I think that would be the coolest thing done to a Metro next to the GNX turbo 6 and RWD Metro drag car. Go for it man!!! +1 for or originality.

I'd try to use the 4g63 fwd turbo transmission if you could, although I don't know if you could squeeze both that AND a 4g63 between the frame rails. You might need a little modification to get it in there. From experience, the Geo Metro transmissions often grenade with the 3 cylinder's awesome 70lb/ft of torque, and with even a stock 4g63, they'd probably only last a week or two. They have super tiny 2 spider-gear front differentials, and any sort of abuse chews through them REALLY quickly. I'd much rather use the 4g63 transmission and get some custom axles made by a driveshaft shop rather than trying to use the silly little Suzuki one.

It would be a hell of a fun car though, once the dust settled, although it would plow in the twisties like nobody's business. The stock 3cyl engine only weights ~200lbs fully dressed, and the transmission weighs in at like 35-40.

The 1st gen is yes mostly complete but its fwd and just a parts car seeing I already have 2 awd no need for a fwd. The eclipse is acutaly only 1 1/2 in. wider than the geo if thats believeable or not but it is true. I do plan on doing the build using a turbo 4g63 motor and 5speed tranny out of the 1st gen. My goal is to get into the 10s with this car and still be streetable . My biggest problem is gonna be traction. However, I should be starting the project in around 3 months once im into chassis fab. I will keep everyone posted on the build.

Fab the rear differential into the metro and make it a rear wheel drive like that video!!

You can't fit a large enough tire under the Metro to get traction, even with a stock 6 bolt. You'd be better of putting it into a Mirage if you want a sleeper. It's pretty much bolt-in and you can fit a 24.5" slick under the Mirage.

Only reason I really don't like this idea is because its still a Geo Metro... ugliest cars known to man, I wouldn't want to drive it even with a 4g63 in it and I normally don't care what a car looks like..

Colts look pretty good imho. Plus you can put a couple different front bumpers from other cars on it and there are GT sides and rear bumpers and spoilers.

If you don't care that you look like a damn idiot driving it, go for it! Only other suggestion I'd make would be to stiffen that frame!!!

i'm all for seeing a GEO Metro with a 4G63 swap. not something you're going to see every day. let alone once every year for that matter. even though the GEO is a car that is uglier than a fresh dog S***, it would definatly be a sleeper. i vote you do it.

A stripped CSM (colt/summit/mirage) is about 2000lbs, probably pretty close to the honda weight.
