Did a search and found one thread to help a little. I cleaned my motor sunday. Well of course you all know the problems I had being a newbie. So I dried the spark plug area, and the car runs much better. Now it only bucks and sputters at boost over 8. (everything is stock 90 Laser 2.0). I changed the plugs, and noticed that the one of the boots on the plug wire was cracked and missing a chunk of plastic. Could this be what is causing the problem I am having at boost. I am hoping it is not the Crank angle sensor or something like that.

Also I have another question (without searching).

When I shift from first to second, I grind. This happens at normal driving. If I granny shift. (let the Idle down all the way) and shift real slow it doesn't do it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.:laser:

Damage to the spark plug boot can absolutely cause misfire, particularly while the engine is under load. Do you see any signs of burn marks (often a small, light grey colored mark) around the crack/defect which might suggest arcing? Either way it might not be a bad idea to replace the wires.

Also, if you have any oil present in the spark plug well the oil may trap the water which then might not evaporate compounding the problem. If there is any oil present in the wells then you should clean it out well (a gun cleaning wand/rod can work well if you have one). After mechanically removing all oil use compressed air to further try to clean it out.

I don't have a lot of experience with transmissions but it could be your synchros. You may want to change the tranny fluid. That will give you a chance to examine the fluid for metal shavings (particularly brass I believe). Hopefully someone with more knowledge of trannys will jump in and help.

Thanks. I have everything open so I will clean them real well when I replace the wires. Yeah I was thinking about cahnging the fluid and filter.

Did you cover up the MAF with anything before washing? If it got wet that could cause a misfire under boost. If it were a plug wire chances are it would misfire randomly or all the time, not boost oriented. Id replace the wires anyways because regardless if thats your problem its not good to leave it like that, if it doesnt fix it, just drive the car around for a while, if the MAF got wet it will dry out and should eventually be fine.
