So I picked up a 1992 GS-T from someone in my town ($1800). The battery wouldn't charge and they said they replaced the alternator. I checked the alternator and it was not charging, while my friend and I were replacing it we noticed there was no exhaust gasket installed and basically a hole blowing hot air right onto the alternator. $7.95 part, Installed new alternator AND gasket, its been about 3 weeks.. i've driven her around 200 miles and the battery has not died.. mind you.. its winter, heat on.. installed a new stereo w/an ipod hook up.. battery has not died yet.. so i think thats okay. My next problem was it was idling around 2k.. I did a little research on here and played with the throttle cable and adjusting the screw under the black rubber gromet. Im now idling @ 1k cold and 800/900 warm *hard to tell exactly* my next issue i need to tackle is the turbo piping.. this car was owned by an idiot who did a few things to the car which i am not pleased with.. but i can easily fix.. 1 ..cut a hole on the drivers side of the hood.. right where the bump is for the camgears... its the absolute dumbest thing i've ever seen.. its really pissing me off.. CF hood will fix that.

2nd.. they took off hte stock spoiler.. they farking taped over the holes ... yeah.. i gotta fix that in the spring too.. other then that.. the car had some good work done to it. The reason why i bought it is because im friends w/the owner of the shop who did all the work too it. they actually bought quality parts for it.. installed eagle rods and things of that nature. ..my question.. i've labeled the pictures.. Im not a turbo guy.. this is my first turbo car.. i really know jack squat about this.. but i really really need help finding out WTF is going on.

I know a pipe is missing.. or something.. can someone tell me whats missing and how i can get one to put it on? or would an FMIC fix this issue?

the last thing.. an Autometer boost gauge was installed in the absolute worst freakin place ever.. right by the ignition switch.... but when the car idle the vac gauge stays constantly @ 20.. is that good or bad? it does not move until i give some gas.. seems onpar w/the stock boost gauge on the dash.

i would really like some help.. I love this car already.. its a lot of fun to drive.

WOW that rag is unbelievableLOL Anyway, that is for your BOV recirculation, find a recirc hose and connect it to your BOV... But I also noticed your BOV isnt in its original location, so the OEM recirc hose is going to seem like its too long

Any idea as to where i can purchise one?

your telling me..

But for the price.. it really does run great..... i cannot complain about that..yet. ROFL

No, you did not get ripped off by any means. That hole is a retarded thing to do though like that in the hood. With your boost gauge not moving until you give it gas is ideal haha and sounds like it should be fine where it's at though I wouldn't leave it there. Maybe some 1G experts can put it into more details than I.

Well congrats on the car, but the body seems in a very bad shape. Anyways it seems like the car has a 20g or 50 trim i cant really tell very good from the first pic, but its a big plus if its one of those turbos. What i would do is find something to plug the hole instead of doing the whole recirculation of your BOV, since your BOV seems to be underneath the pipe. You can find a 1g BOV anywhere, check e-bay or our vendors. For recirculation just use any hose wide enough and long enough.

I know its not a stock turbo though.. it was put in quite recently.

the body does look like crap.. i cant do anything about it till spring though.. paint wont stick when its this cold.

Im going to sand off the clear coat.. and paint it flat black. I like flat black.. im not a whole glossy street racer dude.. I like having a fast car.. thats it.

+ i <3 sleeper looking cars.. ppl try to fark with me on the highway as it is now.. its fun to fool around.

if i just plug the hose.. will it do anything bad? i was figuring getting my friend who works @ a machine shop to just make me a metal plug for it... would that work?

this is what i would like for my car to look like next spring.

Did you just tell him to NOT recirc his bypass valve? Wrong.

If you dont have any type of tuning device that will allow proper venting of the valve, get a recirc hose on that.

Do not just plug the hole you need to hook up the recirc tube for your car to run properly unless you have a MAF-T or some type of tuning device that will allow you to vent your BOV properly. I would take that rag out and put some kind of cap on there until you can fix it correctly, your turbo will not be happy if that rag gets sucked in there! :notgood:

the metal plug wouldnt help much at all. if anything your just running an extra risk if it falling into the intake and possibly into your non-stock thus expensive turbo...

a piece of hose shouldnt be to hard to come by. home depot sells some that'll work by the foot. fix that ASAP.

great buy by the way. ive actually seen a couple Eclipse's in my day with cuts on the humps. some didnt look too bad. didnt seem too functional as the intake is closer to the headlight, but different. looks better as a slice or a thin cut. not a hole.

i think flat black would be cool. patch the holes or slap another wing on there. look into the "$50 paint job". you could probably try it out if you got a garage. might be worth tryng. could hold you off till spring.

if you wanna get an early start on upgrading your car you can do the "free mods". i see your aircan is still intact. cut it up and slap a K&N in it. considering you got new internals, i imagine all maintnence is done. with that new/bigger turbo a fmic should be in order. so i would just pick up an SSAC FMIC.

Im looking into getting an FMIC w/piping soon.

I'll check into homedepot after work.

i just wasted some extra $$ getting this thing to pass MA emissions ...slipped a dude some cash if u get my drift.

I should buy some clamps too.. I think i have to reverse the BOV.. i think the outlet is on the other side. LOL

Im learning as i go.. I want to do most of the work myself.. I dont really touch internals though.. But I got a shop that has been doing most of my car work that I trust. I would like to find a good local DSM guy that doesn't think he's the shit to talk too. *i know one who thinks he is like.. dsm god or something like that* very hard to talk too w/out feeling insulted.

Side Note: Your Vac gauge should be reading closer to 17-18. You could be that your Autometer gauge's calibration is off a bit or it could mean that you have a decent sized boost leak. Either way (especially since it's a new and unknown vehicle), you should have a boost leak test performed. That could also play a part in your high idle that you "fixed" by adjusting your BISS.

Where can i get one of those done..

how much does it cost?

Im going to guess i have the leak because of the hose maybe?

Just remember what I said in the im don't boost to high on the stock injectors rewire fuel pump to. Id go with the 650s and dsmlink. I had a talon with the 20g and stock fuel system and 11pounds was to much so be careful with your 14pounds.

Yes, without the hose you are loosing metered air and that is a boost leak, but you should check for other leaks too. Check out vfaq.com and you can find out how to make your own boost leak tester and do a test, its very easy.

Congrats on your new DSM. +1 on recirculationg the BOV. I found a piece of flexible hose at home depot that was just about right. Go read EVERYTHING at the VFAQ, and check out the newbie sections at all the forums. Good info at Road///Race Engineering too. Good luck!

Oh, and PLEASE put a timing cover over the cam gears! You can get them at Mitsu dealerships that have a parts sales section, or on ebay.

I think i have the cover IN my car..

but when i go to fit it on.. it doesn't seem like it is the correct size.

i will contact the mitsu dealership today.. see what i can do.. i could not find one on ebay.

I really appreciate the help you guys are giving me. Im very glad i picked this forum to start asking my questions in first.:dsm:

The turbo looks like a hahn racecraft super 16g or super 20g. You can see the adapter plate in there. And your vaccuum will be higher with a higher idle speed. Mine is usually at 18 or so, but if I unhook the idle stop switch, it idles at 1k or so and the vaccuum is at least 20.

Actually, without the recirculating hose, your pulling in unmetered air. This is technically not a boost leak since your intake pipe does not see boost pressure, although I'm not sure how that would effect your vacuum readings at idle.

Normally, when venting to atmosphere you car will run rich... in this case I'm going to guess that you're pulling in alot more unmetered air then losing it, which will cause your car to run on the lean side :notgood:

I will figure it all out when i get out of work today, 1st thing is to go to the gym..then go to homedepot and get the hose i need.. clamps and junk too..

it looks like a 1 inch hose.. so i should get 1 5/16 or something?

im quite confused with this turbo setup.. its my 1st one and hella fun.

again.. i'd like to thank you all.. I really like the help im getting

To clarify fromone of the posts above. If your car is pulling 20hg of vacume at idle that's great. If mine ever shows less than 20 at idle, i start searching for boost leaks ( unless i've got the AC on or the car is warming up. If it's either of those 2 cases, the vacum is only about 16 or so hg. But if it's reading +20psi boost at idle, the gauge is junk.

It sounds like you got a decent deal on it though. The turbo looks like an MHI ( or mitsubishi) turbo, so it's either a stock 14b that was replaced, or it is most likely a 16g and MAYBE a 20g but it looks a tad small to be a 20g.

it does not feel like a stock 14b.

my friend has a stock gst.. just keeps it nice and stock.. doesnt care for modding.. i've driven his car.. then hopped in mine.. drove the same route.. . pushed it at the same spots.. my car pulls so much harder then his does.. he even admits that..

Im just a turbo nub.

All the hoses you would need can be found at Autozone or Pepboys as well as clamps and everything. Also get a timing belt cover. That hole in your hood is a hazard to the belt. :nono:

Does the car have a boost controller? How much is your aftermarket gauge reading at open throttle? My guess is you're pushing a few more PSI. And do come up with something to temporarily cover up the hole in the hood, thats a disaster waiting to happen.
