OK i recently took off my turbo on my dsm, I had some work done at a shop. I actually purchased i hope brand new but i hope they didnt screw me over and put a knock off turbo on it. But i have the evo Gt exhaust manifold which is a knock off but i herd its a good manifold. So i am asking on how i know its a real deal MHI Big 16g on it. It says td05 on it and the serial numbers match on the compressor itself. That i found on dsmtuners. I was just wondering if theres any stamp on it with the diamond stars on it or MHI on it or something to make me feel better. But i am 85% its a legit MHI turbo.

It's all in the numbers that are on it. Post them up and someone can tell you if it's legit or not. Or just find the right numbers it should have and compare them to what's on it and see if they match or not.

I know my knockoff 16g says dsm turbo on it, and I know that the real mhi's dont say that. Hope that helps.

Like i said, i found the numbers on the this site so, i guess i am in good shape. Thanks. Anyone else who would like to add to it feel free.

So i am asking on how i know its a real deal MHI Big 16g on it.
Sometimes it's difficult to see the part numbers / serial numbers while the turbo is on the car. There are two ways to tell-

-Look at the compressor cover. Right on the top by where the j-pipe connects, there should be "TD05H" cast in large letters in the housing. If it's not there, it's a knockoff.

-Look at the wastegate actuator. If it's a straight arm with an adjustable end on the side that connects to the turbine housing, it's a knockoff. MHI turbos have a solid rod with a slight bend in the actuator arm.

Keep in mind that it's very difficult to tell the differences between an MHI turbo and the "EvoIII GT" by GT Concepts and Turbochargers.com. The part number is displayed on the cover just like an MHI turbo, but the GT says "EvoIII GT" where an MHI turbo would say "TD05H".

so am i screwed? i have the tdo5h and the numbers match a true MHI but i have an adjustable wastegate? aftermarket wastegate arm i hope :)

If anyone has a question on the possibility of a fraudulent turbo, post a picture of the compressor housing. I know MANY of us can tell you the difference.

As for littlebeeper, No MHI turbos came with an adjustable arm from the factory (at least not anything below an EVO VIII). That doesn't mean the turbo is not MHI, just the wastegate actuator is not.

MHI Turbo (this is a Small 16G, but a Big 16G will visually appear the same):
