What kind of bearings should I use.

ACL or Clevite. I would pull the entire bottom end and replace rings, timing belt, tensioner, oil pump, water pump, balance shaft belt (or elimination kit) all while your at it.

i second that. those are both fine choices.
if you have the pistons out anyway just replace all that can be. fresh engines are happy ones. especially taking out the Balance shafts out. it is so much easier to do it with the pistons out.

I'm not going to take the head off because I dont want to have to get everything machined. So, Im not going to take out the pistons or replace the rings. I am eliminating the balance shaft. I was looking on ebay and saw that there are "race bearings" for the 4g63. They are about $90. I was wondering what would be different about them. Anyone else heard of them?

Take advice from others.....Replace everything at once, you will regret it when you have to pull the motor apart again because you didnt spend the extra $100 to do everything right.

As far as the bearings.....A "race" bearing from acl is a tri metal bearing where as a regular bearing is an aluminum bearing. Look around because I know of atleast one website that sells them for a lot cheaper than $90.

well. I havent put more than 50 miles on my jdm swap. I took apart because I thought it spun a bearing. It was making noise. like a knock, so I immediately took it apart. I tore down the bottom end and found one bearing not snaped in. The bearing was not worn like a spun bearing, though it must be the colprit because I checked all of the bearings and they were all in place. The crank was not worn enough to need machining.

Well don't come complaining to tuners when your motor blows and you blame dsm's for not being reliable...

Listen to advice from the guys in here and do replace all the shit that needs to be.

ok. it has between 35,000 and 50,000 miles on it. Why would I need to rebuild it? I will check the clearance with plastigauge. I was just asking what kind of bearings I should use. I wasn't asking if you guys think I should rebuild my motor.:nono: Anyway. What is the best kind of bearings to go with? The Tri metal? or the ACL aluminum?

Everyone's already told you what bearing to use. CLEVITE! But honestly, if a bearing "came out of place" something's not right and i'll wager that if you don't take it to a machine shop and just put a new beaing in there, that you'll be taking it back apart again in a month or less for the same thing.

Clevite recently switched manufaturers and their race bearing is not the same as it was a few years ago. I think Clevite used to make the best race bearing for the 4g63 but ACL now sells a better race bearing.

This is what I gathered from my reasearch. I sent my Clevites back for ACL.

From what I gathered on searchs acl now has the same manufacturer clevite used to. I've heard nothing but good from acl, and recently purchased a set. of there tri metal. So I'd recommend getting a set.
