Ok, any exhaust suggestions if I would like to avoid the rice rocket sound? I come from a big block muscle background and I can't stand the high pitched sound. I am more of a lower rumble guy myself. I guess it comes down to the muffler in many ways. If there are any suggestions, let me know. Thanks

Stick to v8s if you're into the note :)

The only way to get the best flowing exhaust for turbo machines is to do away w/ exhaust backpressure. This of course leads to V8-guy frowns :( . A stock muffler tones the note down. Nothing makes it more "low" but a larger stroke and/or serious cam upgrade.

It takes rpms and boost to make 4cylinders crush v8s (they usually do if properly executed). Low rumble ad high rpm don' go hand in hand :) . Bu if you're in to formula 1 notes or at least nascar, then you'll be happy to beat the next v8 you run against.

DSM don't sound like those high pitch Hoduhs.

Just go with a full 3" exhaust system with 3" downpipe, cat, and Magnaflow muffler. If you don't upgrade your turbo you might need to go with a full 2.5" exhaust because the smaller the turbo the higher pitch tone is it, but as of now with a big turbo and full 3" exhaust it doesn't sound anything like rice rockets.

I have the Greddy Evo 2 exhaust and it has a very deep sounding idle. Normal driving its really deep but not that loud. When you get on it, it opens up and sounds really nice!

Yeah, 3" is your best bet. One of the guys i work with has a 3" with a 4" Magnaflow muffler that sounds pretty good.

Try opening your exhaust up, I mean completely. If you run turbo back strait out to pipe or right off the turbo back the car has a cool de-spool sound like a big diesel. It sounds pretty damn cool, just an idea.

I ran open downpipe for a long time. Trust me, it gets old, and it's much louder and annoying then a diesel.

I use whatever magnaflow muffler comes factory on a 3" Buschur exhaust. The entire turbo-back is catless and straight, but the muffler must be highly resonated as it's very quiet at idle. I have aftermarket cams and still, it's super quiet. It sounds different than most DSM's, but once you go WOT, it sounds amazing!

I have a full 3 inch from dejon powerhouse, it sounds very mean my buddy with a camaro said he even likes how it sounds and he's got flowmaster 40 series on his ls1. It fit very well had it on in a snap nice deep sound at wot and pretty decent sounding at an idle as well. It can easily be quieted down when there is police around as well.:talon:

thats good to know im ordering there blocker dp and full 3 inch with the straight thru bullet muffler and i wanted it to be ridiculously loud at wot because my neighbors are assholes and scream up and down with annoying derby cars that have pipes coming up out of the hood and sound ratty as F*** :beatentodeath:

I have a 2.5" Straight exhaust with a magnaflow muffler and it sounds grumbly and mean, but it's a turbo FWD, so there are a few extra bends in the exhaust which I'm sure make it quieter.

the fact that out cars are turbo and have low compression they will always have a relatively deep tone. i''ve never heard a "rice rocket" sound. (I'm assuming you are talking about that swarm of bee's sound that your average Honda makes). even a crappy Autozone unit will give you a better then stock sound at least.
