I wanted to throw some cams in my car, but everyone says I will lose a very noticeable amount of power from low end with just the 272's , should I:rocks::talon: just go with the 264 and the 272?? Also i keep my stock valve train right? Im gonna go with the Big 16g or the 18g soon. thanx guys.

You'll have to upgrade springs with a 272. IIRC, some 264s need spring upgrades.

I would go with the 272's. My brother just did an install on his 16g car and he said the low end lost is not really even noticeable. He said the power gained up top is way worth the upgrade. I would upgrade at least the valves springs and retainers to be safe but thats just me. Lots of people run 272's on stock valve train.

You dont have to replace anything just yet right?? i can run stock valve train for a bit? Do i have to bump up my idle?

Well, quite a few have gone without springs and retainers for quite some time. I did numerous pulls with mine for about 10,000 miles.

But that doesn't mean you wont float a valve.

exacly if you cant afford both at once. buy one at a time and wait to install everything till you get ALL the items needed. From personal experience, if you put in the cams in and it works....you wont want to break it apart to throw in the springs+retainers.

I have FP1/FP2 (nearly 264/272) combo and I installed them straight-up. Stock ~165k springs, stock cam gears (no adjustments), and I'm doing fine. Lots of people just throw 272s in and have no problems, I'd say don't worry about it.

Aaahhh.. thats what i needed to hear! :D and yes eventually I will upgrade my valve train.

^^^^Bunch of guys over here on the canadian forum just did a group buy on bc 272's and some guys are running them on a stock valvetrains without any probelms. I'm planning to slap on my bc 272's in the summer with bc springs and ti-retainers just to be safe.

It came to around 320 cad can't remember the exact price. I bought my set brand new off a guy that decided to go without cams, his receipt was around 380cad but he had it shipped over and then there was taxes. I payed only 3 bills for mine not bad considering ebay is more expensive.

Man, you guys are having BC 272's group buys on the Canadian fourm, and they're not even available here in the US. Im jealous. Well nice buy, you got em for a steal.

I have HKS 264/272 on stock head, and my power with a 50 trim finally starts to drop right around 7500rpm (even on DSMLINK graph)

We installed BC0101's (straight 272's) in my buddy's '95 Talon TSi a few months back. The car lost a noticeable amount of torque in the area right before the turbo spools- but once you reach spool....hang on!

The car was noticeably slower in a daily-driver setting because you're always crusing just under boost. Where you would normally just open the throttle a bit more to force the turbo to spool, it would now require a downshift. It's also much easier for the car to fall out of boost between shifts with the 272's, so your shifting is crucial.

Contrarily, the car was noticeably faster on top end. With an unclipped TD05H 20G, the power flattened out around 5500-6000 with the stock cams. It still pulled, just not as hard as you'd think a 20G would. With the BC0101's in the car, it was way faster to redline- enough to raise his 1/4mi speed from 108ish to 111.

We haven't upgraded the valve train yet as we're trying to kill the stock 7-bolt with 135k.
