car won't start ,when no 1 piston is up the cam timing marks are in perfect alignment .can it still be timing ? mitsubishi garage says it is the ignition module? it was running, just turned off ,as if i turn it off!just turns over and no start.all i smell is gas ,and i'm getting yellow spark from plugs.

Did you just try and redo your timing or something? When I did my timing all my marks lined up, but it wouldn't start. It would run for about 5-10 secs then die. my plugs looked like this: Problem with timing after change (long post) - DSM Forums . I ended up having to take it to a shop, but from what I understand was wrong was one of the cams was 180 degrees off. He took the valve cover of and set the pistons at half travel and lined set the cams based on that, and that was all he said he had to do, so if you rotated a cam independently with the timing belt off it could be your problem.

Try taking the valve cover and resetting it that way if that is the case.

car could be 180 out. my buddy drove his down the came back and it shut off and would not start. it was 180 out. check to make sure the #1 piston is up at tdc and then check the marks

i've ran this car for 6mths w/o any problems until now .IT IS NOT ,NOT out of time.

Is that how you are able to tell if they are 180 off w/o taking the valve cover off?

On the 4g63, with the #1 piston at TDC, both cam dowels should be pointing straight up. On your 420a, the intake cam's dowel should be facing straight down, and the exhaust cam straight up. This is usually impossible to tell with the cam gears in place, on the 420a, as the the cam sprocket bolts have very large washer-heads that cover the dowels.

A yellow spark is indicative of a failing ignition. See post #2.
