Well, it looks like its time to replace my rear differential:mad: It has a bearing(s) whining, and a bad thump when going from park/drive/reverse etc... The ujoints & carrier brg seem to be ok. I just replaced all four motor/trans mounts..what a pain in the asss!! Of course the car does have 130,000 miles on it! My question is: Is it cheaper (better, easier) to just find a complete good used differential or rebuild it with new bearings, gears, etc.. Can you even buy these parts, without buying a whole diff. from mitsubishi? Any ideas before I go dump a bunch of money into this project???

Tomarrow I would call a mitu dealer and see how much a new one would be vs a rebuild kit(if they have them I'm not sure) and see if other parts stores in your town have the kit and I'd go with the cheapest one...Also call junk yards and see if they have one and if they do then tell them you want the one with the lowest miles on it

Just get one at the junk yard. It will be much cheaper. You can more than likely buy 4 of them at the junk yard for the price of a new one at the deal.

Looks like you have the same problem as me. I just started a thread too.

You can find it here

Yep, sounds like the same problem:( I have found some used diffs in the $300-$400 range. I actually have a used diff in my '90 300ZX twin turbo ($276) which was bought online and has survived 10-15k miles ,so far. I work in the parts dept of a transmission shop, we also do rearends, drivelines, etc.... Soo i will do some checking and see what I can come up with. If I come across a good deal($) and the parts are available, I'll post them:sneaky:

Have you checked to see if it is just the bushings. When they get old they get sloppy grab the pumpkin and see if you can wiggle it. If so then you need the mounts there a real pain to get out too.
