spark plug wire painting

I went to autozone to buy a new spark plug wire set. I was looking for an all red set but the only set they had one with the red wires and the caps were black or grey. I was wondering if would be ok to paint the caps and taping the cap in off here is a photo of what I am talking about the parts circled are what I am thinking about painting

Yes you can paint it, but no it will not last, as soon as the rubber bends it will crack the paint and look like ass.. I'm not sure why you would need that painted anyways, even in the rice-iest of applications....
 
I always bought spark plug wires based on quality and not color. If one were to paint them the paint would most likely spider and flake off. Also you will barely even see them, the plugs in the wells are hidden and the plugs in the coil are also rather hard to see.
 
alright then maybe ill pass on making the caps red too and I not just buying them for the color but the others I saw I were yellow and orange id rather get something that matched the rest of my engine bay thanks for the advice
 
Here's what you do.

1) Take the crappy plug wires back to Autozone and get your money back
2) Find a computer near you
3) Get on ebay and look up NGK plug wires
4) Pick any color you want
5) Buy It Now
6) Receive Package
7) Install on car
8)
9) Profit

Seriously Autozone plug wires are trash. Unfortunately I'm running Bosch wires and Autolite plugs. I haven't had a chance to switch everything out to NGKs.

I read somewhere that the wires dont matter too much and that you are better spending money on different parts that would add more tp your car. ill look for those NGK wires. would it be best to have NGK spark plugs too?
 
ngk iridium, are a good par of plugs. last long and burn great, but cost about 30$ but last many miles longer then anyother plug. Any plug wire will do the job as long as it has a thick sheilding. When i mean thick, something like 8mm or bigger so as not to leak power when you want to have all power go to the plugs. aka less burn/ less effetionsy when power leaks
 
Personally, I like the Taylor wires and NGK plugs. I've used Taylors on 3 different vehicles and they have never given me any trouble; the quality seems good for $50-$60 wires and they route well w/o a lot of slack to try & manage. As for the NGKs, I've been using them on street & dirt bikes for years without any plug-related incidents; it's easy to go up & down in heat range and their catalog shows multiple plug options for most applications. Just my opinion... do with it as you choose. :cool:
 
FWIW-

when I got my NGK plug wires I did a resistance test on the stock wires and the NGK wires.
the NGKs did show 1.5 - 2.0 ohms less resistance accross all 4.

Didn't really feel much of a difference, but more spark is always a good thing.

the color of plug wire shouldn't matter as long as you are getting a good product.

I wouldn't recomend Iridiums.. especially for turbo cars. Just the standard NGK BP7RES Plugs work perfect. Also those are much cheaper..
 
yeah skip the iridioms, and go for the bpr7es's there like 2$ a plug from any local auto parts.. (i get mine from murrays)... and if your not looking to spend a bunch of money on wires... NGK wires can be had for 40$ if you look hard enough... and you can get past there blue color.. ive run this setup for a while and had no complaints..:thumb:

To the OP... take this information regarding spark plugs with a grain of salt. I dont' want to say this is good or bad information because I don't know which plugs to use in a N/T application. I do know that if you are running a 4g63T that the NGK BPR6ES is a GREAT plug for a stock to moderately modded engine.

Again, these are great plugs for turbo engines... but I've noticed that a few of the posters in this thread are N/T owners.
 
I always run NGK's and thats pretty much the standard in DSM's. I use the BPR6ES plug on my fathers gsx because its a stock set up as well as NGK wires. I'm using BP7RES plugs on my moderatly modded set up. I was using ngk wires until I switched to a c.o.p.
