I was wanting to know what all has to be done if I were to use a 1g motor, trans and transfer in a 95 tsi awd? I searched the forum and didnt see anything. I am new to the dsm world and dont know much about these cars. I dont wanna mess anything up and wanna do it right the first time. I have the old motor already out but have a chance to buy a 1g engine and trans, transfer. I am not sure if it would be better to use the 1g for performance or stay with the 2g stuff. I would appreciate any and all info. I do apologize if there is a thread on here from someone else already asking. Thank you.

You can use the 6 bolt motor, like the previous poster stated, there is plenty of write ups on how to do a 6 bolt swap. As for the transmission, you cant use the 1g tranny, you have to stick with the 2g.

Haha "spooling98" just show this man your 6 bolt build thread man that will answer all your questions "bodydropped92" Cleanest 6 bolt swap ever minor obstacles along the journey but hey thats what makes it the most fun :) I am doing a 6 bolt swap into my 2G at the moment. It is allot of work. Tons of headache but next week i should be in the break-in period. You do not need the 1g transfer case+tranny for a 6 bolt swap either.

Thanks for the compliment :thumb:
Good Luck with you swap, hopefully you dont have as many problems I did.

To the OP: Here is a link to my build, it should answer majority of the questions you will have to do the swap.

LOL no problem man. Your build has helped me a ton along the way of my build and is still helping me. How is the car running right now btw?

Glad it was helpful. The car is running great except for the rear main seal leaking still. Its has 70 miles on it and its begging to be boosted, which Im dying to boost it too. :D

I just ordered DSMlink, AEM 3.5 bar map sensor, walbro 255 and FIC 1050cc injectors.

Not to step on you feet Spoolin98, but yes you can use a 1G tranny in a 2G, I have a 1G tranny and tranfer case in my 2G. I had to tap new mounting holes in the rear crossmember to shift it over so that I could mount a rear mount to the block instead of the tranny. And I just dont have a front mount at all. Never had a problem. Prothane mounts help too. As far as the axles go, my 2G axles had no problem fitting into the tranny and it has never leaked. Only had to switch over the shifter cable mounting bracket on the trans. All the gear ratios match too! Example: http://www.vfaq.com/mods/Trannies.html :sneaky:

Nice clean build btw (spoolin98), I to have been following it too, but I too have been there and done that. Yours though, is alot cleaner then mine went.:thumb:

The 2g tranny is better than the 1g tanny stock for stock though, right??
Sorry to get off topic, I was just curious why the 2g's are said to be better.

Well technically yes, you could make it work. Your one of the very few who would go though the trouble of making it work though, Especially since the 2g tranny is better than the 1g. Also most people who are doing the swap already have a 2g tranny on hand since they are doing the swap on a 2g. But good job making it work :thumb:
You can make anything work if your willing to do custom work. I was just saying if he wanted a simple bolt on swap, the 2g tranny is the way to go.

Well, to be honest. I blew up my second center diff in my 2G trans. I had a 91 GSX that I parted out and had the trans sittin there for a bit. Plus, when looking at it, I know that it has been rebuild by the previous owner. What I think he did was use a 2G trans and just switched the bell housing to go into the 1G. I cant confirm this but thats what I am guessing.

To the OP, a 2g trans is said to be better for a few reasons. I think alot of the issues stem for ppl not properly adjusting their clutch peddles or maybe using different trans fluids. If anyone else has better info please post it.

I havent really started on the swap yet. I am still looking for the right motor and that nothin is wrong with it before I buy it. I dont wanna do it twice. I need the motor, trans, and transfer case. I have the automatic transfer case but not sure if it will work with the 5spd. trans. But this is my first turbo car and first talon, so the experience will be great. I have built several trucks and a cavalier. Thanks again!!
