Ok guys I have a 97 GST 4g63. I am getting ready to pull the motor, one to change timing belt and water pump. I also have a oil leak somewhere so I thought since I have another car I would take it out and rebuild it but not sure what I should do. I of corse want to go fast but not spend millions on everything. Like should I port and polish my intake bore heads and pistons ? If so what would be the best I am still going to use my stock turbo untill I have everything else done so when I put a bigger turbo on it will mae a difference. Also If anybody could tell me where to go to maybe get dirrections on how to rebuld would be great thought this would be a good project and learn somethings in the process thanks for eveybodys help

Right, before anything else, find a used 6-bolt and build that up. Also make sure you get all the nessasary parts to rebuild before you get performance parts like (gasket set, rod and main bearings, all belts, water pump, oil pump, motor mounts, routine matinance things and you will most likley want to get the crank and the head resurfaced, get a valve job done. If you plan on getting a shop to bore the cylinders, see if they will give you a deal on oversized pistons and rings. After all that is said and done, then you can worry about performance.

That's right, 6-bolt is the way to go. When you find a good engine, do all the stuff said above, and also look into the balance shaft eliminator kit, too. It'll help when you get it all built and going, but it does also cause you to idle rougher.

Like they are saying, go with a "6 bolt" engine. Something to keep in mind, motors do not "unleash" the energy used to operate(they sorce it from outside). So the engine in your car is not a motor unless its electric.

As for porting the head, it is not something I recomend doing yourself. It requires a flowbench to properly port a cylinder head in my opinion.

Good port work is time consuming, and I am making more power than most people need with an unported head.
