Hi everyone....I have recently swapped a new engine into my 1999 eclipse n/a, but some how i burned out the old computer. I bought another computer and had it programmed to my cars vin number but then it wouldnt start. I sent it back and it got lost in the mail. So now my question is, when i buy another ecu should i give the company the parts number and vin number from the engine currently in the car or that of the original car (each car has a different part number for the ecu). Some ppl told me the reason it didnt work in the first place was that it was programmed for the car instead of the engine in the car?? Please let me know what you all think thanks

I know absolutely nothing about N/A's. But needing to program the ECU to match the VIN# sounds like complete bupkis. WTF

Yeah.. what he said...ROFL

if you get another ECU for the same year of your car it should just work. ECU are not car specific to my knowledge. Imagine how much money it will cost the car manufacturer to make 1 million different ECU for each car.

The harness changed throughout the years, and the pinouts are different on the ECU's. Use an ECU that matches the year of the vehicle, not the engine.
