How do you know when you shocks are bad?
Also when changeing brakes is it best to have your rotors turned?
How much would a brake change cost if i did not do it myself?

Yes have your rotors turned, its essential to get them turned if you want you brake pads to break in right. Also your rotors are guaranteed to have pitting and other anomilys that have to be removed. I replaced all 4 breaks on my truck ( 2 drums and 2 disc) and the brake lines. I did everything my self including turning the rotors, I spent about $200 and thats with evrything done. Price depends on where you go and what kind of pads your gettin. It'll ###### be around $400 for a shop to do everything. :dsm:

For that price it better come with a good warenty.
Thanks alot:thumb:

It depends on the price. Some brake shop chains will charge you tons to have your rotors turned.

You can go to NAPA and buy a brand new Eclipse rotor for less than 20 bucks. These rotors are guaranteed to be OEM quality and free of defects. I rather buy these and throw away my rusty rotors. Doing so gives me new rotors and since I do my own brakes, saves me $$$ and know I did it right.

BTW, shocks are bad when you bottom out when running bumps. If you owned the car since new, you can tell by the change in ride quality. Also they tend to be squeaky when old.

word  i agree, you can get rotors for cheap then you dont gotta mess with turning them or anything. :dsm: I would install them youself too, its rather easy and when your done you will know just that much more about your car.

+1 on buying new rotors rather than having them turned....It's usually cheaper to buy them new.

As for changing them yourself, its fairly easy, depending on how rusty the bolts are...i would say to invest in a couple cans of PB Blaster just in case...If its the first time the rotors have been changed, i'm willing to bet that its gonna be a b*tch of a time getting the old ones off...If not and they have already been turned, you are going to have to replace them anyway...So for the money, your best bet is to get new rotors.

So it would be better to get new rotors and do it myself.
Say on a scale from 1-5 one being easy five hard what would doing this brake/rotor job be?

If all you're doing is removing the caliper/caliper bracket to replace the rotor, I'd say about a 2. The only problem you might run in to is the rotor being stuck. In which case, take either a big rubber mallet and bang it off from the back or take 2 8mmx1.25 30mm long bolts and thread them into the two small holes towards the center of the rotors.

Also, remember to bed the rotors in properly so that you don't warp them or start causing uneven wear on them or the pads.

I did front rotors and pads on my laser before i sold it and i think it cost only $60 It was easy. On the Talon im going with slotted and drilled rotors all the way around so its going to cost more. But when I hammer on the brakes I know I will stop.

I think my back brakes went out, what kind of brakes do i need to get?
How do you change the back brakes or post a link? I searched found nothing.

What do you mean "they went out"? Did the caliper seize up? Have you tried bleeding them recently?

You may just need to replace your calipers. If so, I think you can take them to your local auto store and do an exchange with your core for a new one. I'm not sure how much this would cost, so you'd be best off calling or stopping in and asking.

If you need rotors (because yours are warped or can't be turned):
Go to your local auto store and get a set of solid rotors (no need for slotted and definitely don't get drilled). Either their brand or you can get some Brembo's online from a few different vendors. These will probably cost under $40 for both.

If you need pads (because yours are worn down):
Go to your local auto store and get a decent set of pads. Don't skimp and get the $30 set. Go for something like $40 or $50 as it should give you a better pad/material.

I dont know what happend, i was coming to a stop and i pushed the brakes all the way down to the floor and it took a few seconds before it stoped. It was too dark to look at them so i just parked the car.

Check your brake fluid level, check for leaks, then put in some new fluid and flush all 4 wheels well.
