stuck wastegate??

My 96 Talon Tsi awd is mostly stock(I was told). It has a after market bov , 3in exhaust from dp back (no cat) and a turbo timer so far . I just installed a boost gauge today and I hit almost 20psi I need to know what could cause this?? Could my waste gate be stuck? and how can I tell If it is?? I assume 20 pounds is not at all good with stock injectors and such so I will try to baby it until I can remedy this, but before I had a boost gauge I got on it a few times and noticed it ether coughed or cut out hope I didn't mess anything up. Could that have been the fuel cut I've read about?? thanx for any help---Don

Sorry--- stock turbo so that would be internal gate

Check the gate flapper. There is a bushing right on the turbine housing that sometimes will back out and jam the flapper. That and check your line to the wastegate itself.

Could of easily been the wastegate flapper. Same thing happened to you have get it free moving again, but before that try to see whats holding it closed!

can I test to see if it is working while it is on the car by just applying air pressure to the actuator?? If so how much pressure should be used??
