I had a guy offer to trade me a 90 GSX for my 18" 5Sigens...Is it possible to swap a gsx motor from a 90 eclipse AWD with the one in a 92 GS FWD? would I need to also swap trans.? From what I have read here, the turbo GSX has a different trans. than the GS N?T...So I can only guess that the trans also has to be swapped. Or would if be more efficient fi I were to bolt the stock turbo from the GSX onto the GS that I have? After everything that I have read here about 1st gen motors, they all used the same 4G63 platform, just with different compression ratings between turbo and N/T... And if I were to swap the motor/trans,wouldI also have to swap drive axles too, seeing as the 90 is an AWD?

you can use the AWD motor, because the motors are the same, just your going to need a FWD flywheel rather than an AWD one. You can use the NT trans for a 4g63, but its not going to be as tough as a turbo one. You will also need a FWD Turbo ECU. My buddy swapped a 4g63 into his 93 GS and its pretty quick. He also saves on insurance :thumb:

Trying to remember from the top of my head. You will need the intercooler, FWD flywheel, ECU, resistor pack. Add wires to the ECU for knock, MAS, BCS (all needed from donor car as well). You will need the coil pack fromt the 92, as the plugs from the 90 are different, as well as a 2gb throttle body. It has been a few since I got Ours done, so as I remember more, I will add it in.

I have a 92 GS I did the swap. Assuming you have the 2.0 not the 1.8, You can bolt most the turbo setup to your engine. The turbo engine is going to be a stronger platform though. Your transmission will work but then again its a very weak trans when teamed up with a turbo engine. The AWD transmission can be converted to be used in a FWD but its a lot of work. You will have to you most of your sensors since the one's out of a 90 are different style of wiring. I used the 90 GSX ecu in my 92 GS, I had to swap a couple of the ecu pins to complete the job.
Get on http://www.vfaq.com/ and they have the information for the putting a turbo on a non turbo car and the differences between the 90 and the 91-94 wiring.

One question though why don't you just keep the non turbo car as a driver and fix up and race the AWD instead of converting?

Maybe not everyone has the taste for an AWD. I love my FWD its fun smoking all the AWD cars here where I'm at. Besides everything is so much cheaper when local DMV and insurance companies look at the car as a GS not a GSX. Don't down on the guy for wanting to learn something different.

Well, for starters, The GS is cheaper on insurance than a GSX. Not that I wouldnt mind an AWD vehicle mind you, would be better for the winter. Plus, if I bolt on a turbo to the GS, I dont have to tell my insurance company that its turbo, since they charge by vin number :D

Thinking about this more though, if I do end up getting the AWD 90 GSX, i will probably just use that as a daily driver and mod my 92 GS. Guess I was just curious to see if it was possible...That, and I also found out the GSX is auto, not manual like my GS...

Thanks to all who replied, greatly appreciate the help
