I have been in the market for dsm's for awhile and i have been waiting for a good opportunity to pounch on and i think i have found it. It is a 98 gst, looks flawless inside and out, but have not seen the engine. It has 102k on the motor. I have asked about rust, leaks, compression tests, maintenance records, crankwalk. Any think else you can think of to help me out in the process of purchasing this gst. Thank you very much.

Check for rust on or around the strut towers. More then likely it will have a CEL. Most DSMs do. If so, check into that.

Also, make sure this is what you really want. I was in your situation about a year ago. I found a very clean 95 GST with only 76k. No mechanical problems, one previous owner, and it was taken in for all it's scheduled maintenence.

Needless to say, only about a year and 12,000 miles later, do I realize I made a mistake. I always wanted an AWD version, and I settled for a FWD instead. It's a damn good car, and I've put as much love and work into it as an AWD, but it still nags at me in the back of my mind that I want an AWD.

Point is, if you really want an AWD, get one. Don't settle. If it doesn't matter to you what so ever, then as long as everything checks out, pick it up and enjoy the fun.

Just my two cents.

Yup same deal with me. I could have gotten a bone-stock GST with like 75k miles for a little more then what I paid for my "POS". But I'm glad I got the TSi AWD. :thumb:

another thing, you probably already know. turn the key to the accessory (sorry i butchered it) position and if all the info lights turn on IE e brake low oil, and for some reason i cant think of any others, they should all turn on and if the check engine light does NOT then he either pulled the plug on it so the cel doesnt turn on or he reset it, i just learned that last night when i sold my Maxima so that info is fresh from the brain. good luck man. take care of her
