Washington,
Hi all,

I received this turbo from a seller here on DSM tuners and DSM Source. The shaft play on the other side is fine. But this on the exhaust side doesn't seem normal to me. This turbo was described as working fine and the guy has a bunch of others he is selling as well. Please diagnose ASAP since I'm sending this back if it's not normal ;)

Heh. I do hope you're joking. It looks like the turbine isn't even connected to the shaft at all.

Just in case it's a serious posting, no, they are not supposed to come like that. I'd be surprised if the compressor spun freely... it's most likely not falling out because the housing on that side is much more close-fitting.

Contacting him right now, and paypal. Man- i should have known better. And he's selling a bunch of other turbo's too. No, I'm not joking. I thought I was nuts for a second since he told me it was fine and there was barely any shaft play. Who knows- maybe it was damaged during shipping, but it wasn't packed like a turbo should have been packed.

Oh- I have his name, address, number, and I paid thru a federal comptroller. I don't think anyone would want to play that game with a federal agency. But I don't want to accuse anyone of anything unfair- perhaps he didn't know or it occurred during shipping. Either way- I don't want to deal with it. It should have been packed better if it happened during shipping.

If the box it was shipped in had no visual damage, I highly doubt that could happen. Get that money back!!! And don't let them play the "it must have happened during shipment" excuse.

The shaft is broken.

Pull the turbine housing off and look. The only reason the turbine wheel isn't falling out is because the turbine outlet is always smaller than the turbine wheel.

Looks like my T25 when it died.

That would not happen from shipping unless that box was in one of those semis in that 15-semi pileup in the tunnel in Cali. And then, it still probably wouldn't happen.

Hope you get your money back...and some explanation about why he thought it was okay. If he's selling turbos, I imagine he'd know that this was a destroyed turbo.

Spoke to seller, he has agreed on a refund. Will send this back tomorrow with tracking number.

That wheel looked like it was on a slinky. Props to the seller for a refund :thumb: If he knew it was like that, he would have found a better way to screw you.

Hi the wriathe, how do you typically pay for items on thesource, cash on delivery or upfront? Is there a way to protect myself from bogus, or MIA shipments? So far I have had luck with my first order from dsmsource, tho my second purchase is taking a while. Its a set of tubular headers (fingers crossed) I hear quite a few people have complained of scams on that site. You gotta have a good feeling about the seller based on his email, profile, and history, but then you never really know.

I hope you get your money back, or at least a working turbo like the original deal.

I paid via paypal. I've had good luck with them in the past. I also paid using a US Federal Government account which helps since if anything goes wrong the comptroller will get on the case. Most people don't want to mess w/Federal comptrollers.

You guys do know i was joking about this right? In the matter that I was told it's fine- but I just wanted to show you what this looked like. I did receive this turbo and it is broken- that wasn't a joke.

Oil starvation will cause that or perhaps an improperly shimed wheel. I sheared off my 14b after 14K miles, looked ok but it may have had slight binding of the journal bearings.
My car is an automatic, I down shifted while the gas was mashed 1 second later it broke off.
My turbine wheel was lodged in the O2 housing

I meant that I'm not joking about the turbo being f'd, but I was joking about not knowing if it was broken or not.

So this whole post is a lie and you really didn't need to waste anyones time in the tech section on it? Wonderful.

That actually was something I'd want to see, but it'd probably have gone over a little better in the Community section, Hangout, Video Links. :)
Yeah, it's pretty obviously broken, but I've seen people with parts that I had no idea if they were supposed to come that way asking about them in the past. So it could be possible someone might not have put hands on a turbo off a car before.

Money refunded, look for a big tech post soon. I have an ebay turbo and a real mhi 16g. Tech writeup to come soon.
