Hey everyone, I'm new to the site and to the DSM community. I'm comming from a 97 Integra GSR, which was stollen. Now I have a 99 Eclipse.

A few things off the bat:

I'm looking for some wheel locks for my rims. They were already on the car when I bought them so I was wondering what I can go with? Here are the rims.

The trunk is very hard to open. The guy who sold me the car said it happens over time b/c of the spoiler. What can I do? Would a new trunk strut help?

Thanks everyone!

I would take one of the lug nuts off and compare it to some Gorilla lug nuts. Summit Racing has a very good selection of lug nuts/locks and have very good customer support and can help you find what you'll need. Either that or figure out the size of the lug nut (like 10x1.25) and search on Google for that size and wheel locks.

I have never heard of the spoiler effecting the hatch opening. Does your trunk stay open on it's own? The struts might be bad on the inside and are not sliding like they should.

Also, next time please name the thread according to what you'll be talking about. The more descriptive, the better the chance of more people helping you out.

Welcome, by the way. :thumb:

Welcome aboard!

Don't forget to fill out your profile.

As for the trunk, is it hard to unlatch, or is it hard to lift up and won't stay up if you let it go? If it's the latter, it may be the dampers. I forget where I saw it, but there's a tech article either on this site or at www.vfaq.com for fixing it. Let me look around a bit.

EDIT: Here is the vfaq article. It's for 1g and is simple enough that you'd probably figure it out on your own for a 2g. But if you do, take some pictures along the way and submit a tech article.:thumb:

There's no way the wing is affecting the trunk. This guy just gave you some crappy excuse. Might be a problem with the hatch struts or a latch problem. Welcome by the way.

My guess is that the *weight* of the spoiler may speed up the strut failure. If the struts weren't redesigned from the 2ga and the 2gb spoiler is heavier, then maybe they wear out faster or reach the point where they've "faded" so that they can't hold the added weight faster than for a 2ga. That's a guess, of course. My struts still open the hatch, but I'm noticing that they're fading a bit now.

Thing is, his car is a 95 but we don't know what Spoiler he has on it. I just replaced my low rise spoiler for a turbo wing and trust me it's not that heavy. I doubt it has anything to do with the weight though.

Is the 2gb spoiler heavier than the 2ga spoiler? I would guess that the 2gb Talon spoiler would certainly put more weight on the hatch than the 2ga Talon spoiler, but I'm not sure about the Eclipses. But I guess it really doesn't matter whether the previous owner was correct or not. The OP just needs a solution to the problem. I just can't help playing devil's advocate sometimes.:D

Oh shit, I forgot he said it was a 99. My bad. Then there's definitely no way the weight of the wing is the problem considering that it has been on the car for 8 yrs. I'm thinking hatch struts. In his profile it says GST also.

Didn't see the GST the first time I looked at that - oh well.

And what do you mean by "I'm thinking hatch struts"?

I have the same problem with mine. If I use the latch release and go back there to tried to open the hatch it will not. I have to lift on it and turn the key at the same time to unlock it.

If i am just using the key it will also not open unless I am lifting and turning the key at the same time.

I just ignored the problem because... well it's just the hatch.

Thanks everyone. Sry about not putting up any pics. Here are a few.

Rust can form at the end of the hatch struts push rod, where the seal rests when compressed. This can cause the hatch to become difficult to get past the latch. I had to lift while turning the key to get it to open when this happened to me.
