Kamloops,
my car has a large FMIC on it which ment i relocated my oil cooler to use a bigger one to between the fmic and the rad (I know heating issue, it was just a temp thing), i went back to work and the person that was driving my car said it just died one day.. There was a nipple where the two oil lines joined because i didnt have the time to get a long enough piece, so I bought a long enough piece of flex tube and reconnected it and filled the car back up with oil. It is still cranking its just not turning over, the engine is not seized it just wont start any more. its gettin spark and its getting fuel.. I need some extreme help.. The car was under no boost either when this happened.. it just died no sounds just blah dead, it turns over but again seemingly wont fire. what would cause this? also a little bit of white smoke comes out of the air filter when i try and start it. I check the turbo and its still good Thank GOD!, LOL any help would be appreciated thanks guys.

I replaced the spark plugs of course NGK R's like what were in there. For some reason the oil smells like gas so i took the spark plugs out and let the gas dry out and then put them back in and tried again but nothing. It is still turning but wont start.. Am i missing something here?

pulled the plug and held it against the engine did that for everyone of them and turned it there is spark for sure. and its not making any noise its weird it just cranks thats all maybe low compression? how do u fix that? rebuild?

You need spark, fuel, and compression, but the spark has to happen at the correct time.

Do you have a CEL? I'm not sure if the 1g throws a code for a bad CAS, but that might be it. The CAS tells the ECU where the motor is. If it's failed, the ECU doesn't know when to inject or spark. On my car, the CAS went bad, but the car would still fire. But as I recall, the CAS on a 2g is different than the 1g, so it may act different when it fails (not fire at all).

Did you gap your new plugs correctly? It might spark in ambient but not compressed conditions (compressed air is a better insulator than ambient air).

Do you believe your friend's story?

Your oil probably smells like gas because your cylinders have been filling with gas while you have been trying to crank the engine. The extra fuel might have gas washed the rings, allowing the gas to get into the oil. If this is the case, I would take the hint that you are definetely getting gas but the gas isn't burning. Like others have stated, check all your ignition components and make sure you are getting spark at the RIGHT time.

how do i check my timing for my spark? do i check and see if its shooting a code back? or is there something i am missed.. eg a cracked piston? when it cranks it makes a thumping noise like shakes the car a bit

You already did step 1, which is to check that you're getting spark

Step 2, get some starting fluid from the parts store. It's like $2.50 for a can, awesome for starting old weedwhacker engines too. Give a good squirt into your throttle body, reattatch the IC hose then crank it. If it doesn't fire, then lack of fuel can likely be ruled out. Plus you can smell the fuel.

Step 3, go get a compression tester. They are $20 tops, you can even rent them. Do a compression test. You'll know really quickly if you've got a cracked piston or something else like that. I don't know of anything that will cause a bad compression test that doesn't require removing the cylinder head, so you'll know when you take it off.

If all of those are good, then you need to go back and check in more detail the first two. Your spark timing could be out. It also sounds like the car is not in your hands all the time, make sure nobody touched anything while it wasn't running.

The bad news is that if it was running fine, then ran out of oil, now it has oil, and won't start, it's probably something expensive.

Checking for codes, and spark timing are all covered if you do a search.
