Engine coolant circuit DTC

According to my DSMlink, I have DTC 0021 Engine coolant temperature circuit malfunction. Everything seems to function properly, coolant gauges, etc, what does this mean? I know the sensor is right below the radiator cap, do I need to replace it?

The coolant temperature sensor has nothing to do the gauge sensor, it's the one next to the gauge sensor (1 wire) with 2 wires going to it at the thermostate housing. If you log coolant temp in DSMLink, you will most likely find the reading stuck at -40*.

Bringing this back. I have same code but coolant trmp shows anywhere between 186 to 193 while driving... had some hard starting 2 days before code happened and it comes back immediately if i clear it

I found a crack in wire but still looks connected. Ill redo it but does it matter which wire goes to which spade connector?

ISnt it a resistance sensor? Just curious. Id rather wire correctly but not sure if it ultimately mattered

Whelp.. 1 foot of wire some heat shrink and 2 spade connectors and im fixed without needing to drop money on a new sensor.

I could have salvaged the plug but it actually looks cleaner how i did it than the stock 22yr old plug.
