hey guys....i have a 92 talon tsi...i recently did a timing job and it skipped a couple of teeth...i heard valve tap so i shut her down and redid the timing....runs fine now....i was wondering if it may caused damage?? my catch can when i drain it looks like chocolate milk but when i check the dip stick it doesnt look that way....also my oil smells alot like a oil and gas mixture and now the car at idle smokes a little bit....i let it sit at idle for a few and rev the gas and there comes a big cloud of smoke and if i continue to hold the gas it doesnt really smoke...its almost like oil is slowly dripping into the exhaust system and then when i hit the gas it smokes....any help on figurung out what my problem is would be great...thanks...

Well if you hit a valve when you lost timing you definitly damaged the valves. Do a compression and leak down test to see for sure. You can find info in the forums about these test.

Also it sounds like you may need a new head gasket... Check coolant resevoir for oil and check under oil cap for milky looking oil. Is the smoke that comes out white and seems to not disipate?

I can think of two reasons why you have fuel in your oil.

You mentioned a catch can which hints that you've altered your VC breather setup. The fuel in your oil may be due to the fact that your PCV system is not properly set up. The breather on the side of the valve cover must be allowed to let air into and out of the VC. At idle, the PCV valve on the back of the VC opens and the IM vaccuum pulls air through the VC breather ventilating the crank case. That removes fuel that blows by the rings during the compression stroke. Under load, the PCV closes (unless it's leaking), and blowby gasses need a place to get out of the crank case. In that case, the VC breather must let that out of the VC. For more info on all of the PCV stuff, search for a thread called "Stupid PCV question" posted by FORMONTOYA.

The other possibility is that you damaged an intake valve seal and are blowing fuel past it under boost. I'm not too sure how likely this would be, but you should do a compression and leakdown test as was recommended. The smoking pattern you mention is also common for leaking valve seals.
