Title asks my question; I finally got my SSQV re-circulated and compared to it being vented into the atmosphere, it's not even comparable to stock. Is this normal? Does the rubber intake piping muffle it all?

I am asking the guys who have SSQV's recirculated on a 2g GST if this is normal. Let me know guys.

I had an HKS for a while. I vented it for a short time against my will, but when I receric it, it sounded like a flutter, with a hard intake pipe. Not sure why, but I didn't care. The high-pitch noise was gone. Quiet as a mouse. I found a killer deal on a Type-S right after and went back to my roots and switched it out.

Is it possible that you are just used to the sound of it not being recirculated. Louder isnt necessarily better for our DSMs, Im sure you already know that. Preaching to the choir right?:p Ive seen a RFL BOV on a GSX that was loud as heck when it was vented and virtually un-noticable when it was recirculated.

Red97Eclipseboy-Yeah, the hard piping would amplify the noise but the rubber, I am guessing is muffling it. But, if I was driving down a quiet dark street, I can hear it just barely. It sounds like air getting sucked into a hole then sealing up again.
a_flint87: I was just expecting something because my stock plastic one had something.

Who else has the same set up as me?

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. With the hard pipes, it's going to be louder. So of course it's going to be even quiter with your setup. I'm not sure if there's anything you can do to get the sound back, aside from venting again. Which I hated doing.

Mine is pretty quiet too. You could barely hear it. When I put my hard intake pipe on though, it did make some difference. It made it more noticeable for sure.

Yea Ive have a type-rs and its pretty quiet. Plus I dont have hard piping so that doesnt help. But when you change that box intake and ram and intercooler piping it will sound louder for sure.

Thanks for the replies guys, later on I am gonna get one of those eBay metal piping kits and paint it black then eventually I'll go for a front mount with all the goodies as well. But, after I find that little pesky oil leak I have.

Hey,
I've been told to do this process to. Is there any way you could take a picture of how yours is set up so it could aid me? Thanks..

TAndrus-All you have to do is mimic the whistler of the SSQV with some extending PVC pipe out of the SSQV Cover then use your old re-circulation pipe. Set it up as if you had your old BOV on. I believe the size of the SSQV cover is 1 1/4 something. Go to your home depot and play around with the plumbing pipes. Keekeets.
