So im sure this has been asked and answered a million times on this site alone, but i really need some input on all the different directions i can go. Im really looking to get a EMS after i get everything i want on the car, on it, But for now i just want to rid my car of the random misfire SAFELY!!!.

Ive done a little bit of research on the POT mod, but will only use this as a last resort.

Been looking at a 94 CAS (black top) hall effect, and have read that in some cases this will give a "less sloppy" signal to the ecu thus effectively ridding it of a random misfire.

Lastly I have read that you are supposed to change some injector wires? I am completely lost on this, becuase well, I bought the car with the swap installed and the car running...poorly. I have fixed MANY things on it and have drove it a bit ( that is how i noticed the random misfire) right now the car is getting a new timing belt + componets installed, and when i get out i would like to check and see if he did the re-wire on the injectors. if anyone could tell me what to look for to see if it has been completed PLEASE let me know!

Thanks a lot guys!

if your up for it, take a look at the vfaq for a 6bolt swap. If the previous owner did the swap, you can make sure that all of the wiring was done correctly.

Yes dsmlink has an option to prevent the random misfire code from showing up.
I have ecu+ which also has an option to invert the CAS signal. Worked pretty well for me. I got a misfire code only once over a 300 mile drive.
And then also the potentiometer mod. I have been looking into this to hopefully just permanently get rid of the code.
The black top CAS should also help, but I don't believe it necessarily gets rid of the misfire code 100%.

DSMLINK will get rid of the misfire for sure. When I had my 2g with a 6bolt, dsmlink easily fixed the problem. Although it is just a band-aid. I prefer having it work without dsmlink and then having dsmlink for tuning and a just in case kind of thing.

i am having the same problem right now i tryed the potentiometer mod i found out that its a hit or miss with that. so far everyone has told me to get dsmlink.

I got a keydriver chip from DSMchips, got the option to remove the misfire code and also swapped injector pulse, so its running great now. I was running a black top CAS before the chip, and i still had constant random misfire.

i know dsmlink will rid me of this problem, but if i am going to throw down for a aem ems, i really dont see the point in buying dsmlink as a temporary fix.

I am really looking for a way to tell whether or not the previous owner switched the injector pulses, is there any way to tell??

When I did the swap, I though I would be smart and get a black-top cas to prevent random misfire. Unfortunately, I was one of the few that still gets it after the black cas. I did the potentiometer mod and it runs beautifully. I did the mod on May 5th in preparation for drag racing. I haven't had one misfire code since then.

That guide has the pinouts for the switch, cross reference your ecu with that guide and you'll know.

Nicks2319, THANK YOU! i am gonna check this out asap.

Also, if i try this and this doesnt work, and i put the black cas on, and it does not work, i think i may do the pot mod, for a temp fix, what should i ask for at radio shack? and where do i hook it up to?

Read that whole Magnus guide, it says it all. :)

I've been having same problem lately... meaning like it started lastnght

i will drive the car nice and steady cruzing on the highway in 5th gear and the car would, out of NO WHERE, just bog down and sputter and give me a check engine light... then i get off on the shoulder and turn the car off and put it back on and no problem.... and then it will do it again :/.... is that due to the 1G CAS in my 2G with 6bolt swap???

Also, i have DSMLink, should i just check the box off so it dosen't look for missfires?... help would be greatly appreciated :)... thanks

-Tom

one more Q, do i have to turn the option to invert CAS in DSMLink?... i havea 95 with a 6bolt.... just seems that that car dosen't run any better or any worse with the CAS inverted... just wondering...

Mine would start to do so and the CEL would go on. I'd just reset the ECU and the random misfire would go away. Also if it happens while you're driving, just push the clutch in, and switch the key on and off real quick. That's what I did and it'd go away for a while and come back shortly.

I also noticed it happens WAY more on the highway. I had major problems with a greentop. Switched to a blacktop and it rarely happens now.

I personally would. If you didn't switch the pins on the ecu, then yes, turn on that option.

i really don't know if they are switched or not i bought the car swaped already... when i pull the ECU out, what should i look for on the harness???...
