Ok, so this is my first post. :thumb: lemme see if I can get this right.
LOL tuners.com ppl are so picky! and i like it!

so.. i see ppl chopping up the front bumper cover to support the large intercoolers, sutch as the SSAC monster, etc.. by cutting large amounts of material from the lower area's. while also. in some cases, cutting various shaped holes in the upper section of the cover, then putting some form of screen in it to make it look half decent...just to cool it properly.

Now my question to all of you is....

Why dont the eclipses and talons, have custom hood and bumper cover COMBO's that function similar to Pontiac Firebird and others.. with ram air scoops molded into the bumper cover and hood, to force air and being internally shaped to accept and Look Good! on our gigantor intercoolers..???

I know personaly. i would pay large amounts of cash, to have something thats nice, than chop up my car to make power, that Could look nice at the same time.

I know some of you guys ar PRO's with fiberglass....

Putting a scoop on a DSM hood wouldn't be at all useful to direct more air to an intercooler, as the intercooler would be too far forward of the scoop for it to be of any use. In the cases of the "RAM AIR" Firebirds and shaker hood Mustangs and the newer Vipers and such, those cars use those scoops to feed air directly into their intake tract, not for directing air over an intercooler. I have seen hood scoops over the air filter (stock location) of a DSM, but you get roughly the same effect if you take out the passenger side headlight.

As far as a scoop or air vent on the bumper cover, some people have cut "Evo-style" vents in the bumper for more airflow.

How do you propose to route any air from the hood area through an intercooler that is mounted on the front of the car? You have barely any room on the underside of your hood to work with for pipe routing.

I have been thinking about getting another bumper to experiment with because I have the SSAC intercooler. I want to put a hole in just below the Mitsubishi Diamonds because at that location it would allow air in that would pass over the intercooler and go straight to my radiator.

My car has been real good about heating issues but we had a real strong heat wave this summer in So. Cal. and my car didn't like to pull hard uphill when it was 115 out.

If you are talking about a ram air scoop for an air filter it makes sense, but not for an intercooler. Stick your hand out of the window at 80 MPH and see how much air hits your hand, that is what is hitting the intercooler at high speeds. The purpose of an intercooler is to reduce heat generated by air being compressed by the turbo. If you have a FMIC big enough to cool the air, you don't need a ram air or air scoop of any kind on it.

Plenty of people have done this, check the gallery.

The only way I could see this working is if you made a duct that enclosed the intercooler/radiator, and then routed up towards the hood. The hood would then have vents, so the low pressure area would help draw air through the radiator/intercooler area and vent it up out of the car.

Then again, your turbo might be in the way.ROFL
