hey wassup guys ive been thinking about this ? havent really found a correct answer, ok so im looking to get a BIG 16g turbo, but im also going to get a external wastgated 02 housing, what would be the steps to illiminate the internal wastgate, or if i order the 16g can i just tell them not to put on the internal wastgate. sorry for the noob sounding ? but any information would be very much apperciated.

thanks
D.

i am doing the same thing right now actually, order one with a ported internal gate no flapper, slap on the 02 with a wastegate your set.

Well you will have to weld the flapper shut. Also along with the purchase of the turbo, you will have to get an external wastegate and O2 housing or turbo manifold which has an external wastegate flange on it.

The original poster asked about an O2 mounted external gate and you just told him to weld the flapper shut?!?!?! You know what's going to happen if he does that with a wastegate on O2, right? We'll see him in about a week asking why he was making 35psi and blew his motor. So the moral of the story is, please don't answer questions if you are sure of your answer.

If you are going to mount the wastegate on the exhaust manifold, then yes, weld the flapper shut. If the wastegate is going to be on the O2 housing, then you need to remove the flapper and port the passage, just as timot said.

One other thing, if you guys could work on your grammar and punctuation, that would be great. Thanks! :thumb:

I got mine from Punishment Racing. The flapper was taken out and the hole for the arm was just tigged shut.
Then I ported out the original flapper seal hole from this

Do you have any pics of it installed on your car? (Wastegate and turbo that is).

Yup, here are a few.

Yeah, better boost control. I didn't want to stay internal and still have to port the wastegate plus mess with flapper sizes, porting behind the arm, tweaking the actuator rod etc. For a bit more cash I thought this was a better setup and hassle free.
Plus this was the last evo3 16g I could find in the country at the time and it was already setup for external off the o2.

What would you recommend between having the wastegate off the O2 or off the manifold? Where can I find a 16g already setup for an external wastegate?

They're both good I suppose.
I already had a manifold (evo3) so I didn't have to buy one of those. And the 2g manifold can be ported. Plus the tubular o2 housing are reasonably priced. With a wastegate off the manifold you don't have to port the wastegate passage obviously, but that was easy to do myself. So basically, off the o2 will work just as good if your wastegate passage is ported and it can be done for a bit less cash.
Almost any vendor should offer the different configurations when you order. I got mine from punishment.
