Im a newbie to the Talon world. I had a 00 Eclipse GT, but thats about as close as Ive been. Im gettin a 94 Talon for 1k. Motor is good, but the body and interior is going to be a project. I had a couple questions about my situation. The talon is a non-turbo, but the guy Im buying to from installed a stock turbo off his 97 Talon because he upgraded to a twin turbo set-up.

What year Eclipse's can I swap straight across with no problems?
Did they make 1g Non-Turbos?
Is lifter tick normal on a fresh motor?
Would a fresh motor be cold natured?

ANY 2g eclipse, or Talon should be fairly interchangeable... and YES they made a LOT of n/a 1gs (more than turbos).... You dont need a new engine if the one you have is good.... just do basic maintenence.... and Lifter Tick is a VERY common problem that plagues these cars--- try some engine restore... if that doesnt work, and it doesnt irritate you too bad its no biggie.. it will go forever like that (OUR engines are virtually indestructable)

WTF UMMMM no.Yes lifter tick is a problem with these cars.Notice the word problem??
You should get this fixed. While it more than likely wont mess anything up rite away.It will cause things to wear prematurly in the long run.

Our engines are virtually indestructable?ROFL WTF ROFL
May I ask what engine you have?
because I dont think ours are the same.
While our engine will last for extremely high miles. They are far from indestructable.
The more you mod the more you have to fix.
If you chose not to mod and take care of your car.It will take care of you.

AS far as straight swaps go.Depends on what your trying to swap.

By cold natured to you mean doesnt warm up like it should?

On the cold natured start you have to hold it at around 1500 RPMS for about 20-30 secs before it will idle.
AND
on the swaps I just wanted to know about:
Body kits
Head lights
Seats
Etc....
Thanks

Body kit... 90-94
headlights.... 92-94 although earlier years are swappable if you want pop ups...
Seats... 90-94 but you could really make any work

and as far as lifter tick goes I would tend to disagree with pitbull419... yes it is a PROBLEM but is it a big problem NO... if your going to mod the car I would be a little more concerned but otherwise its not a huge deal...

NO engine is indestructable but DSM's can take a beating... as with any car you have to fix things... but they are good motors or we all wouldnt own them

I HAVE A 4G63T if that was a serious question:dsm:

Thats a funny thread... and yes I am well aware that things break as with any other vehicle... but I would like to note that I have never had my car on a flatbed--- I am sure the day will come... but how many stock engines have you seen that can handle 20PSI with the right bolt ons??? not many... put 20 PSI to a honda and its down for the count.. hell put 5 to it! LOL...

I know there not literally indestructable.. maybe more durable than some is a better description!:dsm:

There are 2 different non turbo 1g's. There is a 1.8L and a 2.0L, the 1.8L is borderline worthless... The 2.0L is a 4g63 and has a lot in common with the turbo engine, there are a few good articles out there about doing a turbo swap and whats involved. $1k is a bit pricey for a non-turbo that needs cosmetic work, even if it runs perfect.

If you plan on modifying the car I would highly recommend not getting a non-turbo car and waiting to get an awd car. I paid $300 for my 91' on craigslist and many others have found 1g awd cars cheap, they are out there.

engine tick is normal on a 1g the only way to fix it is upgrade the lifters. they made alot of none turbo 1gs but just becareful with some 90-92.5 are 6bolt motors 92.5 and up are a 7bolt motor as far as the guy going twin turbo on a 2g i think thats a load of bs. there are small differnces between 1g 7bolts and 2g 7bolts just so you know. If its a stock n/t 7bolt i wouldnt run more then 10lbs of boost MAX always run 93 otcane btw or you will kill that motor and how many miles are on the car? stock clutch? i wouldnt count on that lasting a long time with boost on it good luck
