For several reasons I like to keep my stock airbox.

Is there an UICP that fits with the stock airbox installed at the stock location ?

RRE said their UICP won't fit, but I saw pictures of the installed RRE pipe and compared them with the space left with my installed airbox and I think it perhaps fit with no or minor modifications.

Dejon's pipes won't fit with the stock airbox; at least, not without cutting a few angles out of the box.

Thank you for the fast answers!

I think your best bet would be the Greddy IC piping kit. It follows the same bends as stock and is not much bigger than stock (Greddy is 2.25" piping) :dsm:
The Greddy UICP only has a flange for a Greddy BOV, I've planned to use a 1G, because it is more stock looking.

Good to know that the Buschur UICP would fit, unfortunately it is not that cheap, but still an option.

I'm pretty sure too that the Dejon's and also the Dave Brode's won't fit.

Anyone out there who can confirm that the RRE UICP does or does not fit with the stock airbox ?

Just out of curiosity why are you keeping your stock airbox?
I like to stay stock looking and legal plus I also had some heat related performance problems in the past, because of the heat soaking IC but also because of the hot intake air.

Since the gap between the stock intake "snorkel" under the fender and the fender itself was only about half an inch, the air was additional heated by the hot metal when the car was parked in the sun.
I now isolated the fender from the inside and cut the intake snorkel open.

I drive a lot in stop-and-go traffic in the city and not that often at highway speeds, so I got not much air circulation under the hood.
As long as I haven't a huge turbo, I think that's the best way to go for me.
So why install a K&N FIPK and then make big efforts to isolate it from the rest to keep the air cool...

I've read this thread.

I think you are relating to mod of the stock UICP with the radiator hose.
I've thought about that, but I feared the stock pipe is too soft and the connection won't be leak-proof, but I could give it a try.

But if anyone knows if the RRE UICP fits, I'm still interested.

I'm refering to the UICP. I really don't see the big deal with putting on something like this kit or just buy the air filter and MAS adapter here with an upgraded UICP. Do what you will.

No way in hell Greddy kit fits with stock airbox. I just swaped out the upper intercooler pipe to Greddy one, I had to remove box and attach the filter with duct tape. :(

I'm thinking about cutting the lower half of the box though, that way I could use the remaining part to firmly attach the filter and keep the pipes as they are.

Although, hot air inside seems to affect performance a little, I don't know if it's worth hacking the air box if you are driving in the city, in warm weather, with stock pipes and SMIC.

Stock air box? Why? I think you might be the first of DSM owners who modify their car who keep the stock air box. You are saying you have, or HAD problems with replacing it. If this is the case, a few others of the thousand DSM owners who modify their cars surely should encounter similar situations.

First, this IC kit is the best value:

As for the intake kit above, why pay $150, when you can pay just $50

My review on them

To be honest, I don't think any UICP will fit with stock air box unless you cut up the bottom corner of the box.

Actually you can get short route piping, and then you can keep the stock airbox, but again, why.

I will agree with the author that there IS a point in sticking with stock airbox. Firstly, honestly, the filtering quality of cone filters is crap :( And secondly, if you don't do heat shielding, then intake temperature rises a lot if you drive in stop-go traffic. And then there's allways a risk of getting water in your engine if you are running open filter.

Then again, there are 10 horsies to think about :D

Wrong. My buschur UICP pipe fits perfect with the stock air box but I then upgraded to a Ebay Intake.

Hence the reason of my choice of words "I think". Surely my post showed how I did not care to keep the stock airbox anyways, with my many links to persuade the OP to just do what all us successful DSM tuners have been doing in the past, present, and most likely the future. ROFL :thumb:

Besides the heat problem, please notice: I'm in Europe, not the USA. I simply can't modify the car the way I like. I've been reading about DSM tuning for the last 10 years and I know an open air filter is one of the first common mods.
But a car with a K&N FIPK and other obvious mods that is confiscated by the cops and/or severe penalties doesn't help me...
Perhaps I will find possibilities to legalize more aftermarket stuff in the future but until then I have to carefully think about what to do and what not.

The RRE fits the stock airbox if you take out the snorkel. I know, I had to smog my car that way.
You mean the plastic part with the oval shape opening on one side and the round opening on the other, right?
