I decided to tare down my old 14b on a whim last night and have been researching ever sense. I think I did it to learn more than any thing else, as its not a necessity in my current set up.

I'm surprised at the rather limited selection of 14b rebuild kits readily available.

The problem with the typical EBAY special, is there lacking some of the non essential pieces the previous owner manage to throughly destroy on this pump.

One in particular being the "sheet metal guard".

Actually, I'm looking for the kit shown here... TheLinkSomeoneWillGiveMeForSure

This is the fullest kit I've been able to find.

Pricing would be nice if posible...

Thanks

They just replace the compressor blades I believe... I "think" the 14b and 16g share the same turbine blade. THey also may hog out the compressor housing to make clearance for the blades. I had them rebuild my 14b... but it turned out to be a big 16G.... seller didn't know what he had.

They did good work and had a fast turnaround for me

Personally, I wouldn't rebuild a 14B when a double the cost of a rebuild kit could probably get you a brand new one. Hell, go and pick up a nice new 16G turbo for a little more. That would be the best way to go about it, but if money is a major issue, I would clean up, inspect, and buy a rebuild kit.

Then again, just as stated above... "why would you want someone else's problems?" You buy a used turbo off of the net, you only get what they obviously had problems with or just plain didn't want. You don't know if they lied about it or not. They say "40k miles on it", but its really 90k. You take that chance.

I agree on that aswell. I personally would not trust any turbo that didn't come from a very close personal friend. My turbo had a bent turbine shaft... no idea how this happened. But I sent it for rebuild and planned to have it rebuilt before purchasing it. I just happened to luck out and got a big 16G rather than a 14b. Score for me...

I personally will only put things on my car that have been thoroughly tested.

I bought a 14b stated in perfect working order, but of course when I got it the fins were bent and was scratched in the housing from where the fins had contact with the housing... Used turbos aren't the way to go IMO unless you already plan on rebuilding it.

they have an upgrade that the 14b car switch to a 16g? how is that done has any ones does this? if it really is true it will only cost 200 something $'s to turn your 14b into a 16g
I can't see how that's possible.

A Small 16G compressor wheel is $89; a Big 16G compressor wheel is $129 (depends which one you choose). Add to that the cost of a rebuild kit ($75-$100), and the labor to cut the backplate and compressor housing as well as the general rebuild's labor cost and you're probably at well over $400.

Email eBay vendor "turbos_r_us". Tell them you're in need of a full TD05H rebuild kit for a 14B.....they'll know what you need.

BE SURE THE KIT YOU BUY IS FOR A 14B. The backplate of a 14B compressor wheel is flat, so the oil shield on the turbo's center housing must ALSO be flat, and the compressor seal collar must be long enough to work with the flat-backed compressor's oil shield.

A 16G REBUILD KIT WILL NOT WORK ON A 14B.

why buy someone elses problem? at least with a new kit you would know what you have

Right....you'd pretty much have this:
