Recently I've been having problems where randomly my rear right brake will be smoking and will be very hot. Whenever I park my car.. I can go up to my right rear brake and that rotor is very hot (almost as hot as the fronts).. but then the left one is warm like usual.

Also... I just recently did my pads and last week I found that my right set of pads was worn all the way down...

But, today I jacked up teh car and the right spins fine.. Does this sound like a caliper problem? Any ideas?

Caliper piston is most likely frozen/rusted in place holding constant pressure on pad. Remove caliper and see if you can press the piston in easily with a socket (in middle of piston) and large slip joint pliers (on socket to caliper rear). If not it needs to be overhauled or replaced.

sounds to me like it seized or almost there. Get a reamn. I have the same problem.. But hopefully will be fixed tomar :)

Bought the caliper today.. but didnt' get a chance to install it..

I was racing a civic today and when I pulled over after the race.. my rotor was glowing red and smoking.. but the other day I jacked the car and it was spinning freely.. does this still sound like the caliper???

I'm not sure how relevant this is but I'll throw it in. After my brakes were done I was getting smoke from my back right tire. Thought I needed a new caliper bought one, ended up not needing it. When the brakes were changed the e-brake was apparently caught on something causing it to be partially engaged and causing it to smoke, without the brake light coming on to show it was engaged.

yep or some racing type of pad like carbon-kevlar (eg. Porterfield R4) or full metallics. What pad are you using?

[Note: The ebrake on a 2g is a shoe inside the rotor-drum so unless the ebrake is stuck on I doubt that's it. Even if it was I doubt the soft shoe would be able to make the rotor part glowing red. You can easily check by just rolling the car, apply ebrake then release to see if it works and releases.]

Old thread.. but forgot to update it.. I replaced the caliper a while ago.. and since then it's been ok.. no smoking.. no crazy heat.. So my old caliper was only sticking sometimes.. All good now.. :thumb:

I already took care of the issue... And calipers are so cheap that it's not worth the effort to rebuild it.. especially when it's all rusty like mine was...
