Will this engine kit be ok for my build?

Well i have a new project. A 90 tsi, not running but picked it up for $300. Im a cheap ass yes, this car is going to be keeping the 14b for a while, and its only going to see strip and some street use. what do you think about this engine rebuild kit?

Remember you get what you pay for.
And when it comes to engine internals it's best not to cheap out.
(I'm a huge cheapskate but I know where to spend. )

If you didn't already buy it...i'd ask if you could get 8.5:1 pistons with that kit...it's well worth it, and that kit looks like an alright deal for a stock rebuild.

I checked out the auction and the bearings are ACL bearings, and those are some quality pieces. I have also actually used a set of pistons from an ebay store that used the same rings as the ones pictured, and haven't had any problems so far. I know you are trying to do a economy rebuild, and I believe the kit will work as long as you keep in mind that there is a lot of stigma towards ebay stores. Plus if any part of the kit causes an engine failure everyone on the forum we say "told you so!", but, again, I haven't had any problems with my pistons and my machinist said they look better than the OEM pistons. I would go for one of the higher quality ones. The price is ok but, at least get some forged pistons, metal hg, and arp hardware. It's like buying insurance.

you realize stock is cast, not forged? why would you need forged pistons for a 14b?

that kit looks fine, there are only so many places that manufacture pistons, bearings, etc

I was just looking down the road to avoid doing another teardown. Boost IS addictive.

Like everyone else said they look alright.

If you want to be able to turn up the boost later I would invest in some higher quality products.

The 14b is the stock turbo on the 1g's. You should do some reading up.
