Newmarket,
I have a 1997 Eagle Talon TSI. It's grinding into gears pretty bad, the problem is with synchros, and I have to get a rebuild. I am planning to get few performance parts to it in mid summer next year, and get it up to around 350hp. I need to get a transmission rebuilt done, I also launch a lot, at around 4-5k rpm range. Its a daily driver, but driven hard. I was looking at transmission rebuilt shops, like Team RIP, Shepracing, and Jacks Transmissions, as well as Dogbox Racing trannys, which one would you recommend? I was also wondering if there is a tranny kit that someone makes, to ship, instead of me shipping whole tranny there, to get it done. That way I can save on shipping costs. Also, do I need to get a 4 spider center diff or not? New transfer Case, or rebuilt? New clutch or not? Rear diff, or anything else? What else do I need to do? Can someone please explain me things in detail, keeping in mind it's going to be stock for another 7-8 months roughly, then I will do few things to performance to get it around 350hp at the motor, not at the wheels. What is the cheapest, and reliable way to go to get a tranny rebuilt, and my drivetrain upgraded, so it handle that power in the summer time, when I save up for those parts.

Thanks a lot guys. :)

Shep builds some badass trannys. I'd recommend getting it done there if you want someone to do it for you...otherwise TRE sells parts for your trans...as a matter of fact i just got done rebuilding mine with parts from TRE. Make sure you get something with a double synchro 2nd...they're nice for shifting at higher rpms...a double synchro 3rd too if you can...

You could get a 4 spider center differential...or you could get the viscous coupler eliminator TRE sells...but that locks the wheels all the time, not so good for a daily driver. If your transfer case isn't broken...why fix/replace it?

As a rule I always replace the clutch in my car when the tranny is out...except if it only has like 10 or 20k miles on it...then it should be fine. I have an xtr stage 3 clutch i got off ebay and it holds the power well...nice pedal effort too. The front/rear diffs...I wouldn't worry about them with 350hp at the crank.

Thanks man. Should I get the stage 3 clutch or stock for now, because my car will be stock for another 8 months or so, except the tranny. I was thinking to get the 4 spider center diff as well, yes. Does Team RIP, sell whole rebuilt kits? My 2nd and 3rd grind all the time, 1st is hard to put into sometimes as well. Also should i get 1st double synchro or not? Pointless unless i drag? Please keep in mind i'll keep in stock for another 8 months or so, and I am trying to do cheap.
Thanks a lot for the input, also should I change anything else, shift cables, tranny mount, anything at all, while it will be getting done, I dont want to run into problems when I start putting power down in 8 months from now.

I got my transmission rebuilt by Dogbox Racing. They're the cheapest out of the shops you listed. Just because they do the cheapest transmission rebuilding doesn't mean they can't hold power. They're pretty well-known. Plus they definitely have the quickest turnover time. They will be done in less than at week when they receive it.

If you only put down 350hp you don't need welded center or 4 spider. If you put down more then 400-500lbs/torque go with 4 spider. The welded center will stress out your axles and drive train. Not to mention it will limit your turning radius and go from AWD to 4x4 and chirp in the parking lot and a ton of traction loss when launching.

Oh yeah, it you're going to rebuilding the transmission next year hold back on the launching until then. If one synchros goes out you cannot shift in that gear.

Thanks, I was considering dogbox or jacks. I am getting the transmission now. Thing is I might kick it up to 350 or even 400 hp in the summer, for now it will be stock, will I be ok if i get the 4 spider center diff, and keep my car stock, the rest i mean, for now that is? Also, how is your Dogbox tranny holding up?
