The Manual and CAPS

Well I finally got my 95 TSI AWD in the garage and started digging in it. The kid who had it before me blew the engine by not putting the oil plug back in, and it seized on him doing about 90. My plan is to yank the engine and start from the top down to see what parts are ruined and what parts aren't, etc. There appears to be a hose or two missing, and I was looking thru the owners manual, but I was wondering if that is the "Manual" many refer to, or if there was an aftermarket manual that is chocked full of knowledge goodness. The body is in pretty good shape, the interior is nice, and I don't think he made too many mods. I did notice sequential BOV, but I've forgotten what brand.

Also, I tried to download CAPS, but it keeps telling me the program is corrupted, anyone else have problems with that or is my computer doing something strange to it? I'm running XP SP 2, and using IE7.

Thanks in advance for any advice, and let me know if anyone has tips (when you pull the engine, tie off the hose x, or push in pin A, type stuff, haha).

The manual on cd can usually be found on e-bay or here:

I would also pick up a Chiltons or Haynes manual at any parts store.

I have SP2 & IE7 and don't have any problems with CAPS. I got my copy from here:

Dang, Mike beat me to it. Buy it, its indespensible and more helpful than a Haynes.

If it were any other software I'd just rip the cd and send it over to you, but since FP makes money of these, I will not.

edit: and yes, a factory service manual is godsend, it goes very much more in depth than a haynes/chiltons.

Sweet, I think my winrar might be eating it, I'll try for CAPS again when I get home. I didn't see anything where it was asking me to pay for it. I grabbed a couple Chilton's at the library, but we didn't have any DSM specific books. Ironically, we did have Hyundai Excel, . I'll check into the other books though, thanks a ton for the advice!

Mitsubishi Service manual is by far the best but pricey.

Aftermarket service manuals:

- Chiltons (avail in auto stores)
- Haynes (avail in auto stores)
- DSM Backup Manual CD (Copy of factory manual pages but some are blurry. Order at http://www.ecanfix.com/~manualcd/index2.htm)
- Alldata (professional by subscription only and at some libraries)
- Mitchells (better than Chiltons/Haynes, avail at some libraries)

Talon shop manuals go for nothing on eBay, and tell you everything you need to know about your Eclipse other than the power antenna. Eclipse manuals are still expensive as hell.
