So my trans blew again so I getting the motor mounts replaced at the same time. I have searched on here and found many pages that talk about mounts. I see that RRE sells a full motor mount kit. Do they make inserts and full mounts? I'm lost on what I exactly need. Do I need new mounts from the factory then add the inserts? How’s this work. Thanks.
Ian

No just buy the inserts and you install the insert into the stock mount housing.
The prourethanes work great, your engine will be so much more stable and depending how bad your stock mounts were, your shifting will even get better, and youll be less likely to wheel hop.
Some ppl experience more vibrations thru the interior though but not enough to make you not get them.

There are 2 different motor mount types for 2Gs.

Prothane -
- lower motor mount inserts, they go over existing motor mounts
- Trans and timing belt factory motor mount bushings needs to be pressed out and replaced.

and Energy Suspension
- lower motor mount inserts, they go over existing motor mounts
- Trans and timing belt side motor mounts not available.

I have Energy Suspension ones and I love it. At 67xxx factory miles, I didn't feel the need to replace the trans and timing belt side motor mounts.

A cheap solution that worked for me was window welding my motor mounts.
This worked nicely for my gst in eliminating wheel hop, and even did it on my awd.
I definitly do plan on getting solid prourethane inserts but the window weld does work.
If your interested in that ill dig up a link for you.

Are you certain that the problem with your tranny is a result of a torn/worn motor mount?

It is not recommended to use the inserts as a bandaid for a torn/damaged mount. So if it does need replacement then you have a few options:

1) Replace with an oem mount and leave it be.
2) Replace with oem mount and use the Energy Suspension inserts to help prevent future problems and get better performance.
3) If rubber is torn then you can remove the rubber and reuse the old mount housing with a Prothane insert (obviously you don't need to buy a new oem mount for this one).

With the Energy Suspension I believe you can get a set of 4 inserts for all the mounts or a set of just 2 for the front and rear mounts.

Prothane makes a set which includes inserts for the front/rear and full replacement for the tranny and timing belt sides (you have to remove the rubber and bushing from the mount housing and press in the replacement). From what I have read Prothane uses a harder polyurethane than ES.

Edit: Dee, you obviously type much faster than I do.:p

The trans only had 1500 miles on it. It was brand new. It didn't go out because of my mounts I just figure while the new trans is being put in ill put new mounts.

I have the set of 4 and I love them. The vibration mentioned above is slightly noticeable, mostly around 3500rpms. Since the mounts I have now removed both balance shafts and dropped in a set of BC272s. I wouldn't be a good judge of how much vibration you might experience with the whole set. I got all mine for a steal ($45) from a local guy parting his car. Do it! ;)

I got the prothane kit and shifting is definitely easier. Vibrations on idle though increased a lot for me even though I still have the balance shaft. I'm hoping they will soften/settle in a month or so and it will not be that bad.

If you have an Eprom ECU in your 95, get a Stage III chip and bump up the idle RPM. That will help with the vibrations.

Ok so I went to Extremepsi.com and ordered my prothane motor mounts. I hope those are the good ones! haha I also got the shifter bushing kit by that energy company. So we will see how much better it is.

Yes your car will shift and feel more solid like its suppose to... You can also put skateboard bearings on the shifter cable levers to further improve your shifting.... This all worked for me. On top of the fact i have a rebuilt tranny, 8500 rpm fast shifts are no problem, no grinding or not wanting to go into gear...It'll also help when you use the no lift to shift feature that comes included in the stage 3 chip that DGarje777 was speaking of. I highly recommend getting a chipped ecu set up... But you can turn the screw on your biss to raise your idle up if its too low.

Really...? Did not know that. Thought it was the same.
Well then what happens when you turn the screw on a 2g because I know theres a screw there.

I should have clarified my earlier post.

The screw does the same thing, but the procedure for setting the BISS on a 1G and 2G is different. On a 1G you just turn it up after you ground 2 connectors. On a 2G you need a scantool since it holds the IAC motor at a level while setting the screw.

So those prothane mounts are amazing. The guys at mitsu said they were a bi*** to install but it was well worth the money. The vibration isn't to bad but it does shake a lot more when at idle. I also felt a power increase which could be because it was in the shop for a month because of other problems but overall if you plan on racing I would defiantly go with the prothane motor mounts.

Did you go all 4 or just the front and rear?

I did all four of them. So the shaking gets worse as they kinda break in I gues. haha Make sure you tighten down all of the screws on your plastic dash cause it gets quite loud and annoying if its not. And don't put your plate up in your window cause all it does is move around and make noise hahaha

hahaha that must be while most people only prefer doing the front and rear motor mount for daily driving LOL. Thanks for the info.

If you raise your idle a bit, you will experience much less vibrations.

Yea I'm debating on if I wanna get DSMLink or not to do that along with all the other goodies you can do with it. In all I would upgrade all the motor mounts. The shaking is annoying but at the same time I would rather have speed and control over comfort... and it truely isn't that bad but if your having a bad day already its no fun haha

What my2AWDgst said. Ironic to see he has an awd spyder also, but 2??! I got prothanes in both my cars and they are a must to get rid of wheel hop especially if you have some mods to make more power. I think prothanes and energy suspension are basically the same thing but the price in the energy suspension link must be for one insert or something. I paid like 70 or 80 for the set off of ebay. If I remember correctly I think I recall reading a thread about cutting up thick pieces of plastic and shoving them into the tears in ## rubber mounts if you dont want to buy the inserts to get by. But if your seriously looking into the inserts, PM me. I'll have some already inserted for sale soon.

Same here exactly. My wife hates the shaking.
