School starts on Thursday, and I absolutely NEED my car back and in running condition. All I've got the head back on and all I've got left is timing belt, cover, pulleys, fuel rail and vacuum lines.

I'm on the part where it talks about the oil pump sprocket. I've got the pin in the tensioner and the sprocket lined up, but I can't find out where the hell they are talking about the plug in the block for the balance shaft or whatever. I am VERY frustrated. The manual and VFAQ just have a worthless picture of the plug. Could someone PLEASE tell me or even take a picture of if they have a picture of it, please show me.

Please help me out here, I NEED the car to be running and finished tomorrow. I'd really appreciate it. :thumb:

Ok you don't even need to pull the plug. Point the arrow on the oil pump sprocket straight up. If it rotates clockwise it's lined up incorrectly so you need to turn it another half a turn. If it rotates counterclockwise (towards the timing mark) it's lined up correctly so just point it back at the mark and put the belt on. This is straight outta the VFAQ

I don't know how my dad missed that then. He said he read through the VFAQ but didn't mention that. Maybe he mis-interpreted it. I was just reading through my factory manual about the ordeal.

Thanks for the help. I found a picture of what I was looking for but it was on a 2.4. Probably the same thing.

Sorry if this seems real noobish. This is my first time ever pulling a head off and doing all of this. It's a real learning experience that's for sure.

Hey man everyone runs into problems. That's why the forums are here. I'd rather get my hands dirty than pay someone. You gotta learn somehow. Good luck with the install.

That's exactly what I thought. Sure it sucks and it's a pain in the ass but I save myself a lot of money. I was having smoke inbetween shifts, sometimes at WOT and sometimes at idle. I thought it was a headgasket. Shop said head was fine, put new seals in even though the old ones were fine. (Bought a head gasket kit) and valves/guides were fine. I think it's the turbo that's doing everything. There's lots of burned oil on the compressor housing and what not.

Hopefully it's not rings. I'm going another compression test once it's running again.

Thanks again for the help.
