Well guys it seems like I've ran into a few problems with my '90 GSX. Last weekend I was on my way home when my car just stopped running, so I got to the side of the highway and tried to start it, and nothing.

So I got it towed and just drove my other car for the week. Now that I finally got to tear into it this weekend what I found wasn't very pretty. It turns out that my balance shaft belt shredded, and must have gotten caught in my timing belt, making it jump timing, quite a bit.

So after I figured that out I took the belt off and started to line things back up, got the exhaust cam lined up and went to turn the intake cam an there was no spring pressure from the valves at all, the cam just spun.

So today I got out there and tore off the head to find that all my intake valves are bent pretty good. So I know that I'm probably going to buy a reman. head off SBR or something like that. But now I have to decide if I should just rebuild the whole thing while I'm at it? The pistons got pretty beat up when they ran into the valves.

Here's some pics to go with the story... So if you guys could just give me some opinions on what to do that would be great. Thanks a lot guys.

Well if you where closer i would rebuild the motor but your far away, i would try to get a motor and head you may be able to reuse the bottom but it depends on how bad they are.

i would get a complete motor check around on the classified on here, or local and search here in the classifieds and dsmsource.com for a motor

Is any of the cylinder walls scratched or dug up, and are the pistons where the have gotten hit cracked or showing some stress?

I would really try to get a another motor or rebuild this one.

I feel your pain. It makes me want to cry.

The piston heads are pretty chewed up and that can lead to a lot of other things. What condition are the rods, bearings, and crank? That looks like some hard hits and might have caused stress fractures (unseen?).

Are you good with blocks? You might be able to rebuild the bottom yourself. As you already have another vehicle, time isn't as much of a concern, and you'll have most of it apart.
Definitely new pistons, maybe a stroker kit in your future? There are a lot of options open. Just name your budget and your goal and see if you can work around it.

My vote goes to getting a complete replacement engine. That way, all you have to do is replace the water pump & belts (and if it's a/t, the cams, injectors & turbo as well) and drop it back in. Then you can take as much time as you want with the old engine and build it up the way you want to without being under pressure to get the car up and running.

Well I'm starting to seriously look at a FFWD turn-key engine. Does anyone have any experience with these guys? I know that they're a sponsored vendor so hopefully theyre good.
