I just installed a 6 bolt in my 93 GSX with a new bottom end. It starts up and dies after a few seconds of really messed up idle. It also smokes, not alot but enough to make me nervous. My question is what are some things I sould be looking out for to warn me that something is going wrong? If there is anything wrong I want to stop it before it breaks anything.

FIRST thing I look at is Oil Pressure - They all smoke a little when first brought back to life so don;t freak out YET - If you retained the 1G CAS setup from wherever the 6 Bolt came from I would start off with the CAS at the MID point of it's adjustment range - Once you confirm good Oil Pressure & continue to monitor Coolant Temps CHECK FOR LEAKS then be ready to go right into setting BASE TIMING per the VFAQ - It;ll never run right until all that is tweaked back in - Good luck

Do a compression check, check the plugs, and check your fuel pressure regulator. When I changed a motor not too long ago (brand new motor), it did exactly what yours did. Turns out, during the swap, the stock fuel pressure regulator was dinked, and it wasn't regulating ANYTHING!!

Alright, Thanks. Ill check all that and hopefully it will start up. It has to be running reliably in 1 week becasue im moving..... I have alot of little problems too like the guages dont turn on, dimmer doesnt work, and stuff like that. Could my problem be than my o2 sensor and coolent temp sensor are not hooked up?
btw, egr is blocked off and it is throwing a CEL. Im not sure how to check that the DAS is at MID or w/e or do the base timing but ill search here and check the vfaq.

please please check all the intangibles before you fire up your car. Turning the key is nothing, making sure everything else in the system works is everything. Also check for vacuum leaks.

How do I check an intangible if its intangible?? I have all vaccum hoses removes accept the necessary ones.
