ok well here is the deal. i own a 98 eclipse gst spyder and a 95 eclipse gsx with out a motor. and need to get one of the cars out of the drive way. so here is my question, if i put the gst motor in there and bolt the gsx tranny up can i still use the clutch disc and pressure plate from the gst and just bolt up a flywheel for a gsx.

ive looked at autozone and the clutch kit has the same part number for both the gst and the gsx. but just wanted to know if this would work before i got it all out and everything.

Let me elaborate. . .

You can do what you are planning here as long as you do use that GSX flywheel. A gsx pressureplate and clutch disk will interchange w/ a gst pressureplate and clutch disk for all years from 1990-1999.

Flywheels will not. The FWD flywheel is larger in diameter than the AWD flywheel for all years. If you put any year FWD flywheel in any year AWD, the ring gear will contact the bellhousing or the starter will not engauge properly at the least. If you put any year AWD flywheel in any year FWD, the starter solenoid will not have enough throw to contact the ring gear and you cannot start your car.

You have 6-bolt flywheels from 1990-1991 and 7-bolt fly wheels from 1992-1999. So you cannot swap a 1990 AWD flywheel w/ a 1992+ AWD. And the same w/ FWD.

Why don't you make the Spyder AWD? It has been done quite a few times, looks and performs amazing, and has numerous write-ups about it.

ok well the reason i dont want to convert the spyder to awd is one cause its alot heavier than a hard top and two is cause the top on the spyder needs to be replaced and i dont want to spend the money to get a new top. id rather put the 2g 4g63 in the hard top and drive it while im building my 1g 4g63 to later swap out and put in the gsx.

And Dsmonster: thanks for elaborating on my question, it makes alot more sense now that you gave me the details and all. i appreciate your help.
